Unique structure fire today (pics included)...

...we were called to a structure fire today around 1 pm at a local funeral home. It was their garage. It contained their Suburban, Lincoln Hearse, and casket storage. It was fully involved when I arrived, 2 minutes after we were called. Anyway, we were able to drive the scortched vehicles out and knock the fire down. Man was it hot! Just had to share my day. Never thought I would ever have to put out a casket. That's me in the doorway on the last pic.

Oh yeah. No one was injured. The state fire marshall determined the cause to be an 8 foot flourescent light ballast.

Way to pull a 2 1/2 line ...you would be amazed on how many people will pull an 1 3/4 line... the knockdown with the 2 is so much better. Who is the fella in the green shirt...
Hope you had some fun... reminds me of when I first stared in the fire service... H2O from a water tanker.... LOL. Pretty cool... kinda...not so much. Hard suction on the engine... really puts things into perspective... on how good we got it. Hard not to find a good plug around here. Engine looks naked without 5" in the hose bed. We had a lot of fun back then. Did you ever get to go interior while she was hooked up?... or did you stay defensive.:dontknow:

We are a really small all volunteer department. Sort of a whatever it takes type dept. We all leave our jobs or houses when we get toned out.

You got that right, I pierce right through drywall when were interior, and it's in the attic space/ over our heads...(beat's pulling it all with a pike pole) got to have a good water supply though. Will run right through an engines water supply in about three minutes (depending how big the hold) with a 2 1/2. Running out of water.... bad.

We can't get away with it, but the Vollies need everyone they can get regarding manpower.... we just hate to se them sucking in about 4000 carcinogens with each breath... one gulp is all you need to end up with somekindofbadshit. It's called "The breath from Hell".
