so i used emory cloth and cleaned the crank up. took multiple measurements and all were within factory tolerances!!! i ordered a new balancer from dc performance. its SFI approved to 9000 rpms and very nice quality.

installation was a pain a$$. no auto parts stores carry a specific harmonic balancer install kit for our engines. what i did discover was one parts of an install kit works, the bearing+crank bolt= install kit:rock:

start to finish took me about 7 hours.(had to remove fan and shroud) its a very nice feeling having the truck back on the road!!:D i know i got extremely lucky not having major crank damage. so everyone please check that your crankshaft bolt is tight next time you get a chance. it could save you a MAJOR hassle!!!

pin or key is the bestest way to go,stock, hot rodded N/A, juice or FI, imvho

anybody got pics of a crank with the roe pin installed?

I think its suppossed to be 130. I went with locktite and 2 star tight. ;)

Is this a common, or is it rare to have this happen ? and what you did equals 130 lb's ?..........looks like it aint goin anywhere, real anchorerd and secure.

Is there a different bolt supplied with the balancer?

I dont think a different balancer is going to prevent the bolt from coming loose. The loctite is going to help for sure, but maybe its time to find a different bolt or even stud.

Doesnt look like any of those match our bolts though. Ours is 3/4 diameter, 2.25" long with 16 threads per inch.

No pictures of the crank as mine is at the machine shop but here is the pinned balancer. When you drill for the pins the balancer is mounted on the crank and you use a special guide tool that ROE has developed. You mount this tool using 2 of the pulley bolts and then use 2 predrilled holes in the guide as a reference. Its pretty simple to do. When you drill the balancer/crank it drills half of the hole in the balancer and the other half in the crank, kinda like how a keyway works. Then when at the proper depth you pound in the spirol pins.

You have the smaller bolt size when they replaced my crank same thing happened, but I know that it happened before I bought the truck they showed me the crank:mad: , I noticed they upated the crank bolt size mine is now torqued to spec of 250 ft lbs. I think the bolt head fits 15/16 or 1 inch socket, I have to double check. They only hard part to pinning the crank is remoing the radiator but if yours is still apart then Order the part.

i plan on pinning the crank when this winter rolls around and i wouldnt be able to drive it anyway. hey devidawg i'll be living pretty close to you come june.
