Anyone know of a decent priced cam corder to film some runs at the track. Has to be very simple to use. Any suggestions?
 
My suggestion is a GoPro. and you can mount it however you want. I just don't know how they will take you going down the quarter mile with a mop stuck in the bed and a gopro on top lol
 
I think everyone thought you were talking about hooking it up to your truck.

Any HDD camcorder should work great for you if it's being taken from the stands. I use to have a JVC HDD cam, it was a beaut and had a crystal clear picture with 30x zoom. Now I just use my digital camera, most shoot in 1080p and have HDMI hook ups.
 
These cameras are going cheap these days and have exactly what you're looking for. I have used the Sony FX1 HD cams for almost all my vids and have the GoPro's to get different angles without having a second videographer. Here is an example of the work:
