I wanted to get your attention. With the worsening economic times we are facing ahead and no light at the end of the tunnel. I would suggest to you all to start thinking about upgrading your home security systems, devices. For example a good security systems, Steel doors and frames, Katy Bars, Window Bars, Outdoor Motion Flood lighting systems, etc. I am in the process of doing alot of upgrading to my system and just thought I would remind you all of the times we are in and ahead of us. People take drastic desperate measures in times of hardships, why should you and your family be the victim. Just looking out for you all...Be safe.

I'm installing a wireless video surveillance system. A couple cameras inside to monitor my MIL and a couple outside to see who might be coming up the driveway or snooping around. You can get a decent 4 camera system for under $300 bucks. Hook it up through your computer and you can monitor it remotely (at work or on vacation). It can even be monitored through an enabled smart phone with internet access. I'm going wireless so I don't have to run wires across the house. Just find a power source for each camera and your done. They work up to 300 feet from the receiver. It also has motion record capabilty. So you don't fill up your hard drive it only records when it senses motion.

thats good, but it does you no good when they walk up with their head or face covered and spray paint over your cameras. you can monitor from work or vacation so you can see them taking your stuff and messing up your house. im not trying to be a jerk, just shedding some light....

I live out in the country. I've got dogs. My MIL stays here with here sitter. Anything of value is in a very substantial safe. All I want to do is record the comings and goings around the house. Everybodies situation is a little different. Now if I lived down in Durham......that's a different story.

thats cool, just cant ever be too careful my friend. the times are gonna get worse. I live in Austin, and I am here to tell ya, Texas folks that live anywhere near the border had better take notice, there are some things about to happen that will make them wish they didn't live there, but that is just my opinion.;)

Good luck to you brother. I can only hope it isn't as bad for you as you are preparing for.

thanks man, i too hope its not as bad as i am preparing for, but i would rather be prepared vs. not doing anything and playing the what if game. i travel alot and my wife and son are home alone, the way i see it is, you cant put a price on piece of mind.

My house is 50% glass.... I'm pretty much fcked. lol  If it gets "bad" (break-ins at other homes in my sub division, etc), then up go the hurricane shutters on most windows and sliders. If corrugated 16 gauge galvanized steel doesn't stop em, well.... :dontknow: ...... They'd be real disappointed if they broke into my house tho. :p

As you know I work in Iraq, and so I see and hear some things. One thing that I have noticed as I go from base to base is that there are alot of border patrol agents embedded with our Marines and Army forces. Now Im not talking staying on base, I am talking the border patrol officers are in full fledged gear, armed to the T....so lets think about this.....why would the US Government embed border patrol officers with door kickers........i think the answer is obvious. Another thing I have heard is that the CIA has updated its list for the most unstable countries in the world, Pakistan and Mexico...something is gonna happen boys and they are preparing themselves for it. With my security clearance, I can no longer travel to Mexico without giving prior notice to the proper government agencies that I am going and when I will be back. Alot of things I am adding up, thus I am preparing myself my friend as should you and anybody else located in southern, central Texas. It is better to be prepared. Now you know, take it for what its worth.

LOL, funny the first line states that we are teaching and training the Iraqis how to protect their border.......UMMMMMMM yeah, cuz we do such a kick ass job of protecting our own border....:dontknow: I dont know if thats what it is or not, they didnt appear to be with any civilian Dyncorp guys at all. They were sleeping on cots, like me, and rolling with the Marines, etc. That could be the case, but Im still erroring on the side of caution.

Maybe I should start locking my doors now, is that what you're saying? Only problem is I have no idea where the hell the keys are, so I couldn't get in either heheh.

Seriously it's probably been close to 10 years since I've locked a door. Don't lock the ignition on my bike anywhere I go either, and can't even think about locking up the old GMC pickup, the security system is jacked and if you lock it, it takes a half hour of messing with it to get the thing to start.

I guess I just have more faith in people. Maybe I just have my head up my ass, but I hope not.

This reminds me of the year 2000 scare.

Only security system that will work when the real shit hits the fan is a loaded weapon and your ability to use it.

the majority of people that own and have guns in the house, have their own guns used on them, FBI stat. Heaven forbid your house gets breached, but if there is more than one perp, and they are packin, your good as dead. Guns are good, but I would rely on more security measures than just guns. Forts have high walls for a reason.
