Warranty denied

Had a squeak/popping noise from the front end. 2nd time in the dealership for the same thing, they couldn't diagnose the first time. 2nd time I took the service guy for a ride and he finally heard it. He thought it was suspension. He stated he put an electronic ear and located the noise to be a loose bolt under the front left radiator corner(there's a big rubber bushing on the frame). To tighten that bolt down was $200 not covered under warranty. They believe it was due to body work from an accident? The vehicle has never been in one though. Clean carfax and I've owned it since 1.8k miles and now has 17k miles. They say the clear coat looks funny on the radiator support which I have kept detailed. Funny thing is my buddys truck which was an 06 was making the exact same noise before he traded it in. Btw, my factory warranty is through march 2010. It wasn't titled until 3/07. Any thoughts/arguments I could make to have it be warrantied?

yeah sir they did you wrong. They need to prove to you what caused it was from "outside influence"

The funny thing is you are not the only with this noise. my truck is doing it too and it sounds very serious suspension looseness. However i checked every bolt on the front suspension and have found nothing.

I'd say go back there and talk to the service manager. Also before you go read your warranty booklet and see what you can find to help you.

important***** be very calm..... if no resolution comes about, inform him you will take them to small claims court.

Sorry brother, darn dealers they know how too get you.

I work at a dealer and I'm usually the first one to say go back and fight. But, in this case you don't really have a case. Tightening a loose bolt is considered an adjustment, to most manufacturer's. The warranty on adjustments is usually 12 month or 12000 miles. Most dealers will actually charge you diagnostic time just to find a noise. You now know where the noise is, didn't cost you anything, go tighten it. :)

Yeah sorry.. I've been with Chrysler for 12 years I would of denied you warranty covereage as well. If you were the 1st owner and serviced reg at the dealer, there's a chance it would of been covered. Being that you are the 2nd owner no one really does know the history.

That sucks man, not much you can do now, the work is done and you paid. I had that same noise as well, I just thought maybe it was the dash or something when I went over a couple small bumps in the driveway. It has stopped since, I hope the bolt didn't fall out.

I think it's the same problem Dodge has had most of it's life and especially the 94.5 + trucks and that's the lower control arms AKA A-Arms. Look closely under the truck and observe the bushing rubber in the control arms. If they look cokeyed or weather cracked replace them. ANd if I'm not mistaken it's either the bushings or ball joint that make you replace the entire control arm?

I don't know about our trucks, but a lot of the time it is the ball joint that would cause you to replace the entire control arm...... Bummer

i guess things are different at a BMW franchise, we really go out o our way to take care of the customer at times even when the warranty has expired..

From personal experience, it only takes one time to feel like you gotten ripped off. That person will then tell xx amount of people so on and so forth...
But im not a service manager...

I've heard the same from my best friend who has a BMW.

That is one thing I can say as a mechanic, not one but most every BMW shop is the cleanest and actualy ready to help. There is one out here the floor is so clean you can probably eat off it and thats the main bays. They do have first class service:congrats: Maybe if american dealerships took 1/10 th of that they may have better success.

Most euro cars have the best warranty.. everything is covered light bulbs, batteries, ADJUSTMENTS.. haha BMW includes maint. and wear items. Even after the 4yrs 50K if there a good customer there is a grace period we extend. Ive been with benz for awhile and you should see there certifeid warranty you can get up to 3yr more and 100k full coverage.. Thats were american cars lack is the after sale stuff.

It was just a fkn joke......

I suggested that he go back to the dealer, drag the service manager out'a fkn the booth and bitch slap him a coup'a times.......

I was FKN KIDDING....lol

People are too fkn sensitive around here......

Was I violating a sacred rule of decorum by suggesting that violence be rendered upon an employee of Mopar......?

Mercy, Lawd .... Perfidy, that's what it is..... the pinnacle of perfidy.

I agree with what someone said earlier. It only takes one bad experience to feel like you have been ripped off and your trust is gone. It is a shame that more dealerships are not more eager to keep their customers happy. Really, how much does it cost the dealer to tighten a bolt for the guy? The reward is a customer who will come back and possibly spend money and feels like he can trust you. $200 to tighten a bolt is BS and pisses people off. I have had great experiences with the 10. I am friends with people at the dealership and they take care of me, so that is a big help. I only bring the truck in for stuff that is legitimately wrong and they fix it without issue and no argument. For that I am grateful.

I recently had a bad experience with my wifes Mazda and was blatantly ripped off by a dealer for an oil leak that was 100000 percent warranty work. I was so angered by this I almost got rid of the car because of it. Luckily Mazda intervened and eventually paid me back.

Point is, the truck has a warranty and the fix was minor and not something caused by abuse. Keep the customer happy and just tighten the bolt, not conjur up stories about how the clear coat looks funny so it must have been in an accident, thank you for the $200 ripoff fee.

In deference to the occasion:

Some of these dealers are running scared by dealership closures and the financial woes of the day..... They're being penny-wise and dollar foolish.... They're scratching for the moment with no thought of the future.

Meanwhile the consumers suffer.........
