I decided to have someone detail my truck and one if the workers thought he'd be nice and wash my engine. Well now the truck has a bad idle and backfires; this was yesterday. The owner took a blow gun to try to blow any water out of the electrnoics by the intake and by the ecu on passenger side firewall. Supposedly he didn't get battery or fuse box wet. He believes the coils are still wet since today they started it and still runs bad. Any tips on what to do? Thanks.

ck to see if there any sign of the PCM gettin wet " water marks / wet spots "

look to see if all the sensors are still pluged in and " still in there proper locations "

i soked my battery and fues box - so i cant see that being the problem,... but i would ck the PCM " thats not expost to get wet  "

bad idel ck the TPS and MAS make sure there still pluged in

Wonder if the coils are shorting out now?? If he used a lot of water it may have pooled under the intake.

Spray all of the electrical connections you can get at with WD-40 (it displaces water).

After working at a car wash and washing engines sometimes, I'd never do it to mine, EVER. We always had something happen or it started to run bad afterwards, or you gotta cover certain crap up. Just get in there with some cleaner and a scrub brush and hand clean whatever needs to be cleaned.

Do like me, I NEVER clean my engine. Looks like somebody took a shit under the hood. BUT it ain't missing....:D :D

I would bet that the stock plug wires crack due to the heat after a while and due to the location of the coils the water shorts them out fairly easy. The rest of the electrical plugs on he motor and the pcm can be submerged and cause no problems unless they are bad or installed incorrectly. The fuse box will have contact problems if to much moister builds up, but is unlikely if everything is in place as it should be.

did they power wash it ????

even the best seal can let high pressure water pass if held in one place too long or the right angle

Well i was giving him benefit of the doubt that he wasn't trying to get water in it, however it is possible the guy was jealous:)
