Way Past Time:

Believe it or not, I am with Prof on this one. The Bible is not short on violence or the meting out of punishment to those that are "non-believers". In my opinion, they are almost the same religions. The similarites far outweigh the differences. I think all religion is bullshit. We still have radical Christians running around blowing up abortion clinics from time to time. You don't see the mainstream groups out bashing them either. How can anyone ever believe that their "God" wants them to kill another person on their behalf. If indeed there is a God, don't you think He or She would want everyone on this rock to put aside their differences? More people have been killed on this planet in the name of a god than for any other reason.

I believe you are absolutely correct on many of your points, Bob. All major Monotheistic Religions are the same. Most of them come from the same source. And ALL of them have been twisted and molested over time, to serve the bidding of one human being or another. Whether that person is a King, Cleric, POPE, Emperor, or otherwise… Powerful leaders have used narrow-minded people to kill other people since the beginning of time. All in the name of a faith.

I truly believe that there is going to be another Renaissance, of sorts, in the near future. People are starting to get fed up with not knowing who to believe. But, like any renaissance... There will be a very DARK time before it. Are we in that time right now? Who knows...? I think we may be close.

I wonder what everyone would do... if a superior race landed on this planet tomorrow and announced that THEY were our "creators". Wouldn't that be interesting?.......

I agree with you, but, as the saying goes, "Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it" or something like that..
Also, some people have nothing better to do than bitch about the way things are, or have been. If more people would take a stand and DO something, some problems may be resolved. Please keep in mind that while I support efforts to change the future, I am personally much too busy with today...lol

Good point.....

I need to get some work done tooooooooo :D

Every person who provides an opinion here is involved and truthfully involved in trying to find a solution. I worry about those who read the thread but do not opine...and I worry more about those who start to read the thread and stop...

I love this place.

My two cents....

Let me start of by saying that I'm sure to be a hypocrite here :D

I read the first post, and I agree....fawk them, they couldn't give a shit about me or my people, so I don't give a fawk about them....

I am not religious, so I don't plan to battle here, but Prof said I should reply with his last post :D

I was gonna post something long, but I don't wanna go there....let's just say that if you fuck with the bull, you're gonna get a horn broken off in your ass :D

That is why there is a different church on every corner. It may have started out that a group attended said church until someone said or interpreted something that part of the group didn't like. So that part breaks off and starts their own church/religion following the way they interpret how the (Bible) or whatever they they believe in. In lawless days, they just would have had a war and the strong would have survived killing off the non believers. It's my way or the highway mentality. It happens all the time. There are churches popping up out of the ground around here like weeds. There can't be enough people in the county to fill all of them on Sunday. And if someone did offer me 72 virgins.... I'd say that sounds too much like work. :D

Condeming the religion is not correct. Like all religions, radical fundamentalists that have no room for tolerance of others, greatly magnify the problems.

Sorry, to be one who disagrees, but the record needs to be clear...its not religion, its (radical) people that make life difficult...

Roy

Roy,

Thanks alot for your input. You've always disagreed in a thoughtful manner....

I've edited your words down to those that I'd like to rebut.

Condemning the religion is definately what I did in my initial post..... and I do stand by my words. This religion is dedicated to the ravings of a madman who (according to historical fact) was a victim of fits and hallucinations. His edict regarding the killing of infidels supports my assertion to his lunacy....

The majority of Muslims simply refuse to accept all the words of their own prophet. They have adopted a "cafeteria style" acceptance of their holy scripture. Religions often do this..... Mormons solved their scriptural boo boo about blacks being "children of Satan" when they adopted their doctrine of "new revelation"... When things go a bit sideways ....."reinvent yourself".....

So, to speak plainly, let me say that I believe ALL "religion" is poisonous. Religion per se is antithetical to true spirituality. Religion practices an adoration and worship of its own icons and doctrines over actual conversion of the human heart (read enlightenment). As the apostle Paul wrote, "The letter of the law kills, but the spirit gives life."

Tolerance (which to me is simply a PC term) brings no one closer to loving another being. It only asks us to tolerate them...... It fails to enlighten mankind in favor of simply indulging (read "putting up with") those who are different. It's like putting a band-aid on a severed head.

By the way, Christianity has had it's share of bloodshed too. But history proves that the Crusades were formented by the onslaught of Islam. Bit, the Crusades became a bloodbath of the innocents too...This only validates my point about being poisoned by "religion"...

If we could rid ourselves of these poisonous religions in favor of true enlightenment, mankind may become capable of pulling itself from the religous hatred which now foments acts of terror and the wholesale slaughter of our fellow creatures.

Thanks.

They sure do, but they call him Allah. The similarities between God/Jesus and Allah/Muhammad are staggering. Nevermind the fact that both religions believe that some of the same places are holy sites. I don't see how it would be possible that both religions didn't originate from a single common one. But that of course is only my opinion, and I am certainly not a religious scholar.

This just in from MSNBC: New poll announced today indicates the MAJORITY of Iraqi citizens are IN FAVOR of insurgent attacks on American troops.

No Bull. I just heard it on Tucker's TV program...

Thank you Bob :) I guess I relate everything to the God I believe in. That's why it is great to have discussion that we can all learn from

I think religion sucks and is a works of man to start with. As said already, it seems that when certain groups don't like what their religion is doing, they start a new one that fits their bill. I don't know enough about all the angles of religion to have an intelligent discussion - but I certainly read and listen to what others have to say. :D

That's what happens when you only ask the guys with the machine guns and the rags wrapped around their faces. Polls are really useless information, and can be skewed to give any answer that you want. It's all in who you ask and how you ask. I really don't believe that at all. I think the majority of the Iraqi's are looking for a peaceful and prosperous land in which to raise their families, just like 99% of the rest of the world. I honestly feel sorry for the vast majority of those forced to live in places like this. And while the comeback is always "they should rise up and do something about it" (in fact I know I have said this more than once myself), it isn't quite that easy, especially when you have no economic base in which to arm yourself or organize.

I wish I could just wave a wand and bring peace to the entire world, but peace is just a fairy tale. The nature of the beast I guess.

I can certainly understand your position, Bob.

But for my money, religion itself is the enemy.

If more people traded in their religious minds in exchange for true enlightenment we could rid ourselves (to a large degree) of the evil deeds that are done in religion's name.....

But I doubt that will happen anytime soon.....

Evil persists even when good men do something. Truly evil men only accept defeat when they are dead........
