What doors will fit?

What years of Ram Doors would fit our trucks? I am assuming all third generation (02-08). Might steal another idea from Jerry. :rock:
 
Well at the speedworld GTG I saw what Jerry (Trainman) did to his truck to shave some decent weight. He got another set of doors that are completely gutted and IIRC he even replaced the glass with plexi or lexan. I think he said it shaved almost 100 pounds and doesn't take long to switch his doors out for the track. Gonna try to find some old doors for my QC and gut em. Should shed some decent weight for track use. Between that, taking off the tonneau, tailgate, spare tire and pulling all the seats and replacing the drivers seat with my corbeau, she should be quite a bit lighter for the track.

You also got 2 extra doors then Jerry so itll shave more weight off yours. Hardest part is going to be finding the side moldings for a decent price so the truck still looks normal when the doors are on like Jerry did. Im sure you will be able to find front doors with crack windows for cheap but the rear doors have the power windows in all models so those might cost a little more. call my boy Paul at Don Scharf Automotive
 
Thanks Justin! I will have to contact him. Not really concerned with looks at the track just yet. And my 07 hemi ST had manual windows on the rear doors. Hopefully I can find some for cheap. NSDQ......yeah.....just trying to find new ways to improve track times while keeping it cheap.
 
Shaving weight is def one of the best track mods you can do. Say what you want, but those stripped to the frame Honda Civic hatchbacks with the JDM swap motors and a few bolt-ons used to do work on heavier, higher hp vehicles at the track when I was in high school. Sometimes instead of adding and adding hp and spending lots of $$$, you can do like what you're doing and shave weight and make more use of the hp you have already at hand.

oh serious! Nice man i never knew they made crack windows in the back. Those type of doors should save you a little money. And if your not worried about looks for now then besides the cost of the doors, lexan and your own time it shouldnt cost to much at all
 
NSDQ.....yep...I was really inspired by Trainman's truck. Very impressive what he has done. I am hoping to shave 4-500 pounds from her that all can be bolted back on when I am done at the track. My last project was a Dodge Stealth TT that I shaved over 600 pounds from. (although a lot of the weight was permanent) Also, a venom hood is hopefully in my near future and I think that is a little lighter than the stock. Just...as long as the door opens that is all that really matters to me...lol. I do know a little about basic body work. How to pull/fill dents. So I should be able to find some really cheap ones. Gonna try a few local pick-n-pull type salvage yards to see if I can find some cheap ones. I have worked with fiberglass in the past and have always thought about using some old ram doors to make a mold for some FG doors....which would be sick.
 
That would be sick if you could make fiberglass doors. Hell, if you had the cash and could mold a carbon fiber roof panel, doors, and spoiler, that would be awesome!
 
Yeah.....if I had the money/time to invest into it, I would FG the doors and all four fenders. But at that point the truck would be for track/show only.
 
Is your truck your DD? That's the issue I have with mine, I have to take into account with any mods I do that my truck is my DD and until it's paid off and I get a new car I can't/won't do certain things to it.

Yep....mine is a DD....but it will no longer be in the next week or two. Getting a little crappy, gas saving DD soon. Then I can afford (time wise) to do things like pull all the seats and tonneau and such. I will still be paying on it but that doesn't hold me back much.
 
Yeah sounds like a good plan. Once I get to Ft. Campbell this summer I will probably head to the lemon lot and see if I can't find a 4 banger to drive back and forth to work with and pay cash for.

Actually it is closer to 180lbs for the pair of doors, and another 130 lbs for the seats and armrest with the racing seat. Tailgate is 60lbs, fiberglass bed cover is at least 120lbs. Bogarts (front and rear) cheater slicks and smaller front tires (Dunlop Signature 225-55-18) save another 174 lbs over stock.
 
That's awesome Jerry.....great info! Looking forward to making a lighter trip down the track!
