what oil to use ??

I know the owners manual says mobil 1 synthetic 0w40, but do you think i can use valvoline synthetic 5w40 instead ?? My local oil change service doesn't have 0w40........

Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.
 
honestly I think youu'd be ok. I've actually managed to save up 9liters of that castrol 10-60 that we put in bmw m3's and m5's and i'm gonna use for my next oil change. If i can remember back from school as long as the oil is in the same classification or higher than factory rec you'd be ok. I'll look in ma books for that info regarding classifications of oil or some engineer on hear prolly knows it off the top of their head.
 
I stick to mobil 1, just because it has really good specs (flash points / etc..).

As for what "weather" viscosity to use (that's what 'W' stand for ex: 0w40), depends on your climate and how your drive your truck. 0w is good for up to -30C, which most people will not get into (at start-up/cold weather). I use 5-40 full sync mobil 1, its common, and a lot more inexpensive :D and I don't need the 0w at startup w/ the San Diego weather we get here. For the information I have gathered, DCX had to choose a oil that could be used 'universally' in all location and climates, thus giving us a very broad viscosity range.

Like red says after all the oils I have tried stay with mobil bro, its absolutly the best.

As far as viscosity you should be able to run 5w-30 most all year, if it gets real cold you can go thinner if needed,

In hot weather oil breaks down easy so go thicker

in cold its thicker at start up so go thinner. tada!!!!

If you want a cost effective and SYNTHETIC version try Shell Rotella SAE 5W-40 Motor Oil. You can get it at a local auto parts store or even Walmart. It's about 3.50/quart instead of 5.50 for the mobil 0w-40.

It's fairly new.
