Dude, driving the truck is supposed to be fun................I cant imagine having any fun worrying if my truck was gonna blow. Whether I could afford a rebuild or not, just worrying if shit was gonna break would take all the fun out of it for me.

Drop the STS, you have been VERY lucky when you look at the stats with that system. I would baby it too Roe and 86 it.

Just hanging out. I flew once last week and once the week before. I'm just waiting on paperwork so I can start flying students. I should be GTG by Wednesday. Then it will be game on. What's up with you?

Engines have been lost on Paxtons and NOS, albeit not at nearly the same percentages as with the STS. After mulling it over plenty, I concluded that it would just take too much additional gear and tuning to get where I wanted to be with that system. Without being able to monitor and tune for each cylinder, you're just guessing.

Further, FI on the stock intake seems to be problematic (I'm in the process of choosing a Hogan's intake for that very reason). Roe chose not to offer a side-mount because of the lean-out problems on certain cylinders under boost conditions (again Sean found well over a point difference in the AFR on some cylinders). For whatever reasons of physics, the STS seemed to exacerbate that problem.

If you want to stick with the STS for the time being, I'd strongly recommend a VECIII and methanol injection. Then have it tuned figuring that 3 & 4 tend to run more lean than the others. Figure that's a couple grand in gear and services, and that (except for the tuning) it can be used on any future application, including an NA setup.

I already have the VEC2. So I would only need injectors and the meth kit. Installing the VEC2 shouldn't be hard as it wired mostly the same as the STS-1E. If the problem is lean out then larger injectors, individual control of the injectors and meth should prevent the lean out. If the problem is back pressure then the problem is bigger and I don't know how to fix it. I do have 20,000 miles on my STS so far with lots of runs down the strip and open roads. I wish I knew how many STS systems were sold and how many are still in use.

Ah, didn't realize you had that already.:) From what I remember of the VEC and STS controller instructions, there will definitely be more connections made for the VEC. Each injector lead is tapped, in addition to the timing and RPM that have already been done.

Although I can agree with Silver regarding the difference in back pressure between conventional and rear-mounted turbos, I do not see that as being the most significant health risk. If your intake PSI stops where it needs to, then intake temp and AFR is what needs to be addressed. Meth and more fuel obviously address both of those.

There are three other SRT STS systems that are out there that I'm aware of that have not had engine failures.

2. What were their dyno numbers?
3. Are they on the board here?

At least one other was a QC, no known dyno numbers (myself included), and none of these members have shown up on this forum. I'm next to useless here, sorry. We're going on two years now, after all.:eek:
