what's dan been up to?

Dan,

When you do a new deck, do you concrete the post in the footers or put them on top. I've heard of both and am thinking of expanding my deck. It's 11 ft off the ground, by the way (similar to the screened in porch project). Just wondering the preferred method of a master builder like yourself as I sketch out my plans. The support posts would not become railing posts, I'll do those separate.

depends on how i feel... no right or wrong way on a deck... if it's load bearing (roof on top) then i pour a footer, leave about 8" or more of exposed post, then pour a second layer around the post - to lock it in, of sorts...

sometimes i dig out, just use a solid 4" block, then pour all around it later... or on some, they spec a sonnen tube and plates if i'm doing a custom house...

That settles it. I'm flying Dan to Houston so we can work on my patio outdoor kitchen. Sure could have used your help on the gameroom/theater room and downstairs livingroom last month. But it's all good. I got those done.:D

I was wondering what you were up to since the text thread was dead all weekend. :D Pics of the brew tanks would be awesome too.
