I took the truck in today to get a wheel alignment and they did it. Turns out they are within spec but the steering wheel is crocked half way around to drive straight. They told me since i lowered it i need new tie rods. anyone got any info on where i can get some new ones fort he lowered truck?? driving with this steering wheel is killing me

how low is she dropped???
and i agree, try a different place

had stinkers kit done, the guy is using an expensive aligner and showed me how he had the tie rods to the end and all this other jazz. hes the only place in town can get around the 22" wheels, other places want me to put spare smaller 5 on 5 tires on so there machine can get around it. grrrr

i forget what the real kit specs were, stink knows though:)

had both the trucks lowered 1/2 drop.
no prob on still bein enough adjustment for factory specs.
just a bit of a toe adjustment & no steerin wheel issue.

for what ever reason he has the tie rod ends all the way to the end of their adustment don't sound right at all. new tie rod ends will be the same as what ya got. so can't see how that would help. much less be safe to drive.

not sure how one gets "around a wheel"??????

his adjusters that go around the rim do not go as big as 22" they only to go 20". so i had to go to this guy who i dont like to deal with. on the bright side hes gonna sell me some pirellies to smoke off for dirt cheap. but anyways, all taht was out was the toe. i dont know what else to do

where ya be at???

there is no reason to change out the tie rods because he cant center the steering wheel. hes got this thing way out. there's not a local dealership near you?

the dealership dont have a wheel aligner. i am going to take a buddies 5x5 stock wheels, throw them on and try it again and the prefered wheel alignement shop tommorrow. ill update sunday

Luke I have limited service, back on the road a couple days, but the guy is full of BS;) it the wheel is crooked then he has it adjusted too far one direction;)

YOU can set the toe, do this, take two jack stands, tie a string to them sit one behind the rear tire, the other in front of the front tire until the string jsut touches both sides of the rear tire.
then straighten the steering wheel to center, then adjust your tie rods till the tires look straight, and even then move the string to the other side and do it.

If you have 4 jack stands its actually better to do both sides at one time

or you can do this.

straighten the steering wheel, then adjust the tie rods till the tires look striaght ahead, then take a tap measure and get a measurement from the front of the tire adn the rear of the tire, and adjsut to make the measuremets equal.

in other words if the front of the tire measures 70 inches and the rear measures 71, then adjust the tires outward 1/2 inch;)

then find a good alignment shop and have them double check it, but once you do it , you will find it very easy to adjst the toe in;)

The 06's are different but I can assure you on 04/05's its Camber that can be a pain to get back within spec after a drop. Toe in/out is piece of cake. Should be the same on the 06's for toe adjustments.

What pisses me off is after i drove it on his ramp, he took it out for a drive, couldnt find reverse and was pissing me off. then he came back drove it back on, scrapped the front bumper driving on his machine because he does not know how to go slow, then he kicks me outta the service bay where i was watching him lift it up. Then after 1 hour of waiting he brings me back in a feeds me his lines on how he cant do it. I never go to this shop because i have heard bad things and was jerked around once there before. But the other shop couldnt do the 22"s. after he aligned it he drove it again, and told me everything is to the max and the wheel is crooked. I paid my 50 bux and left unhappy. ill update after the problem is recitified. Thanks for your expertice again guys. specialy you stink.

Sorry for the probs luk:(

but if you need I can do a detailed post for you on how to do it;)

but look at it simply and dont think its hard:D

you basically want the tires straight ahead, via string, or machine it works the same basic way;)

Got a 2nd Opinion from the 30 year old Pro today. put them old 22" rims on and went for a burn down to the shop so he could get his machine on them. Im maxed out but barely within spec and the steering wheel is crooked. We ordered 2 new inner tie rods. We are going to cut 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of each of them and then put some more threads on them and set it up to work correctly. I wouldnt have had to do it if it was stock. But he gurantees me wednesday when I pick it up at 5:00pm I will be able to use my streering wheel controls while driving straight with the wheel correctly aligned and the tired will be BANG on and riding LOW. :) IM STOCKED:) WOOHOO. Seen a buddy from high school down at the local shop who installed two 8" stacks on his hopped up diesel. Had to play a little after leaving and we'll make another lil race skit sometime soon. Pretty nice truck! and on an even better note. My gaskets came in today too! thanks DRAGON! The bassanis will be on thursday morning WOOHOO:)
