Hey guys just thought I share about my back pain that I been suffering from for about a year. I hurt my back about a year ago when my foot slipped trying to put a seat in 745Li. A bunch of doc visits later and mrri showed that I had a herniated disc that was protruded about 3-4mm somewhere in between in the L5 -L6 or L7 hell i cant remember. I finally got the doc about 3 months ago to take me out of work since I hated being there every day with my pain. LAtely he referred me some back specialist who took a look at me and right oft the bat just wanted to order an epideral injection. Even after I showed pages of info that those injections that did nothing he wants to send me to see a back surgeon for a consultation. I'm pretty sure alot of you know that shit doesnt work more than 75% of time according to all i've been reading. i've stumbled onto this today which is local to me and I think imma ask my doctor to look into it for me and maybe even get me a referal to go get this new shot. Those who have back pain know how uncomfortable it is and keeps you from doing simple shit.. For a while I was living off vicodin but i know I cant do that forever. For the last 2 months I been on 1200mg of ibprofen and I ice back when ever I want to do something. Wether It be to go for a ride, Fcuk, or shit even to sit down and watch a movie.....

Who else deals with back pain or has had this treatment, surgery's, injections

This vids almost made get teary out of joy that the pain might be gone soon

I don't have back pain, but Jerry does suffer from multiple back injuries, so I am familiar with how it can hamper your style and make simple things terribly painful (and makes you grumpy as hell, too). I hope this works out for you we wish you our best with it Alfredo.

It isn't easy, but a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do - hang in there buddy and keep us posted

I have been dealing with it for 30 years now. I have learned how to make it work so I can do anything anyone else can do, without suffering through pain.

Bill.

i can tell you now DO NOT DO THE EPIDERMAL,,it is just a weak band -aid that in my experiance just make it worst when it fades off ,,you think your ok cause you dont feel pain and you end up doing thinks that screws it up more cause you feel no pain at the time ,,and vicodine makes me puke so thats not an option right now i take tramadol when it gets bad but that just covers it up some but you dont get that mess up feeling you get from vicodine ,,

It's always good to hear about the "latest and greatest" procedures....I hope it helps you, cause back pain sucks for sure!:bawling: Let me know if it helps

If you're one of the 75% of Americans... Like me... LIKE ME... like ME... who suffer from back pain, this video may be of some significant interest you.

I herniated the L4/L5 disk back in October of 2006. Here's the video of the actual injury http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTJhhxDFuC8 if you scan through some of my other video's you can see that my back now appears to be stronger then ever. I'll tell you I have a nuro surgeon all over me out here due to my perceived "miracle" recovery. THis was no miracle as shortly after my back injury I started right back up in the gym. Within two months of the injury, I was back doing light deadlifts again. Now I hammer my lower back in training with only a flare up every few months. Its seems the most common misconception is that you need to rest an injured lower back when the fact of the matter is a weakness has now developed that needs to be cured. You spine now has a weak link so you need to address this issue of else every time you bend over or move in an weird angle you risk suffering more back pain. My lower back in stonger then ever despite my injury. This is because I train my lower back with more intensity then ever. I do understand my limitations so I'm sure to get more recovery time in between heavy lower back workouts. I still wake up in pain and am very still when I get up in the morning or after sitting down for a while. I also have pain if I stand for long periods of time but all in all most people would never know I suffered from a devastating back injury. My suggestion is to try and condition you lower back through excersice. Dont neglect abdominals and stretching either. IF your not a fan of the gym, you really should become one. I've seen so many people who have suffered a back injury get to the point where the muscle's in the lower back have atrophied from lack of lower back activity. THe muscle can help support the spinal and training will increase blood flow in the area helping to prevent scar tissue growth. I'm sorry to ramble this this topic is very near and dear to me. Most poeple would never beleive I suffered such and injurydo to my recovery and I wish to help out anyone in the same situation. Hope I can help.

Well, I have a chronic back. In 2000 I herniated so bad that I damn near ended up in a wheelchair. Pretty impressive MRI. I did it at SWAT training in Orlando...at the Roundup. http://www.swatroundup.org/competition/ I was taking Controlled F.O.R.C.E. classes (Level I, and Level II). Everything was sore the second day, and after the second day I started with leg pain... ignored it...kept on pushing it till the following week Monday... when I lost the use of my entire right leg... was dragging it with me when I finally went to the doctors office. She sent me to the ED... when they got the MRI back.. I was admitted to the hospital...barely remember anything...they kept me well medicated...guess there was a pretty good chance if I blew the thecal sac... I would be rollin around in a wheelchair right now.:dontknow: The Neuro that did the operation saved my ass, and wanted to pention me off the Fire Dept. due to the extent of the injury, and post operative prognosis.
My Physical therapist helped me overcome that obstacle, and the MD shit when he saw the PT's report the day of my discharge. He allowed me to return to full duty, despite his hesitation... on my way out he said... "see ya in 5 years".... it's been 8, and I am still goin. Hell I played two years of football (flag) after that, for the Firefighter Olympic Games....everyone thought I was nuts. I had alot of fun.
This all comes with consequences though, and I deal with pain everyday, toe numbness, and a chronic fasiculating right leg... been that way since the surgery.
If you can avoid surgery... do it. Find an excellent Sports Medicine Physical therapist... they will work on core strengthening, back strength, and lifting technique. Form and proper mechanics are imparrative. Start slow, and take your time.
Reviewed the INR website... never know if the injection will work for ya, till you try it I guess....they make it look good that's for sure. Not sure I buy it...but that's why they call it " practicing medicine ".
Let us know if and how it works out for ya. Good luck.

I suffer from back pain often. Mine is not from an injury though, it's hereditary I think. My Dad also has back troubles. I often get spasms, some times so bad that I have trouble walking for days. Worst time was when I was riding cross country and had no choice but to keep on going. Spent a lot of time laid up after that one hehe.

Best of luck to ya, I hope that it helps. Back pain can be debilitating. It effects everything that you do, every little movement. Hurts just thinking about it.

I am a new addition to the back pain issue.

I have 2 herniated discs L5 and S1 I believe. I had severe pain in my left knee since last xmas. I thought I injured it at the gym since I was walking though the mall after a workout on legs. After a week of icing it an MRI showed that it seems as if it may be hereditary.

I have had two epidural shots to date and may end up going for a microdisectomy later this year. I am pissed because it has really made my gym time suffer. Plus the pain killers dont do too much other than take away mental pain (not complaining about that though ;) ). Just hope I get through all my personal and mental shit because the physical shit adds up to be a little too much to handle.

Anyone have any issues in the knee and not the back? My pain is all in the knee but I have no injury there. Checked twice too.

My dad hurt his back in 1986. He suffered for years and could barely walk. A friend of his (an MD) noticed he was in pain and asked him about it. My Dad told him the story. The guy asked him who he had been seeing about his back. My Dad told him an Orthopaedic specialist.

The friend told him he had the same back trouble (herniated discs) a few years earlier. He went to a neurologist who did surgery. The freind said after recovering from the surgery his back was almost normal.

Long story short..my dad went to a neurologist who did surgery...My dad's back is now about 85% normal...the neurologist said he could have probably got him back better than 95% if he had seen him years earlier...this was 7 yrs after my dad hurt his back..

Been 13 yrs now and my dad's back is still ok..

That is what they do say... Get it done quickly to avoid further injury and/or damage. Others say to wait until the pain is unbearable. :dontknow:

I will get it when I get a few opinions and they concur.

I had a lamenectomy at the L4-L5 level in 1985. My back is about 75% right now. I know what I can and cannot do!

Fortunately i can still surf and ride my bike for short periods of time. My next step is either an artificial disc or fusion.

I am a canidate for the disc but the Doc says the space between L4-L5 has shortened so much that he may not get it in.

I will eventually have the fusion, I just can't afford to be out of work for any real length of time. I do experience quite a bit of pain but I have learned to live with it!

Oh Yea, I also have had a 3 level fusion in my neck! One more reason why I am holding off on the lower back!

Getting old and being injured sucks but it could be worse!!:D :p

The pain in your knee can be related to your back injury.

Thanks bro, Actually when I first injured my self(about a year ago) I was goingto the gym but I had no Idea what I was doing so it did nothing. However since the doc took me outta work I read up and did back workouts and started hitting the gym. I have a complete back workout that I do twice a week along with other stuff. I know what you mean about working out and maintaining proper posture really helped lessen my pain. I dont get the painful spasms since I been working out. I know that I'm getting stronger because I can lift stuff I couldnt before. Everyone I know even my doc was weary of me going to the gym but now that it has been 3months later he's really impressed that I've improved. Hell when I started I was only able to bench like 90lbs, Just recently I finally hit my max of 185 which aint much but it feels like the world to me. (dont laugh:D )
Derick what workouts do you do for your back?

I'll be honest I dont feel very comfy doing free weight squats or deadlifts. too scared I'll hurt myself.. Even so with the improvements I made I still have this annoying back pain that doesnt let me sit still, doesnt let me ride my bike and enjoy it, and more importantly doesnt let me go back to work.
Derick If I could I'd like to give u a call and talk this thing thur further, I m very interested in finding out more.

Oh, I know.... Totally is the culprit... The pinched neve radiates down front of thigh into the knee. I just dont have pain in the back. I did have pain at first but now its basically only the knee.

The only back injury for me is a chronic spraining at the joint of the sacrum and illium. (sacroilliac).... It's an old (bottled) waterman issue and can be quite painful.... This little issue has been ongoing for about 20 years....

Thankfully I've never (knock wood) had any diagnosis for vertebral problems as of yet....

I do wish all you guys with spinal issues all the very best....

At my age, I'm surrounded by much younger men and women with severe injuries and surgical histories, fusions and other procedures that have seemingly failed to relieve the pain...... Like it's never gonna end...

It makes my little problem seem like stubbing yer toe....

God bless you all......

D
