I was looking online where someone had some old Viper key blanks for sale. Seller claims they'll fit newer Rams. I used to work in parts at an Infiniti dealer and I know some keys had transponder chips in them. I was just curious if the 06 keys do and would a older Viper key work?

PLUS, my key and remote are all one unit too. Will the older keyless remotes fit my truck? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Help me out, I hope this can be done! I hate my huge bulky key. Plus the Viper head key would be killer.

just off the top of my head i am going to say no it will not work.

I don't work at Dodge, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night!!:D :D

Sorry, Coudn't resist that.:dontknow:

The Viper key will only open your door. It wont start the truck because you can't program it.

Thats kinda what I am thinking. I figured I would ask and find out.

not sure about your key, but 04/05 can remove the chip out of the key, mount it close enought to the (sentry) ignition switch / tumbler and it will work. If not mounted close enough, it will not run.

I didn't think about that! Thanks for the reply.

your key is sentry key. the viper key is not...will not work. need remote/key close to ignition to operate

red 007 has a point.if ya can move the chip...it should work.but then anyone with a non sentry key could crank yours and run.i have a hide a key on mine and it will open the truck and crank it for a few seconds then it is dead.if ya have a hide a key then the move the chip idea is not good.(alot of thieves know all about hide a keys)

Take apart the steering colum and place the key inside by the ignition?? :dontknow:

Then your viper key would work :D

I know what you mean about the size of the key, drives me nuts when I put it in my jeans pocket!

the 06 is all integrated. cant remove just the transponder

What do you mean its all integrated? I understand the key and remote are as one but do they share the same transponder? There's no way that the older remote will work? As Deibs said, this bulky key is annoying. When I drive the truck its the only key I carry, its to huge to have a keyring or anything else with it.

As the tetris champ said above :p. Separate the controller and see if there is a chip inside, if so, remove it and attach it to the column. If not, then put the key there :D
