well after a recent thread I thought I would start on my hood liner, been thinking about it for a while

started by painting, to toughen the threads and set them a bit, sanded lightly then put a coat of epoxy , let it set overnight, sanded again and did another coat of epoxy, so here is a few pics from todays steps, hopefully can sand and paint smooth tomorrow and finish sat

Can't wait to see the finished deal:rock:
Can you list the types of materials used and how you applied them.

regular satin krylon fusion paint, Max CLR high performance epoxy, sponge brushes, and latex gloves!!! short list so far, the process is easy but I have done it many times making carbonfiber overlay things for my trucks and a buddys dirt bike, I will write up more tomorrow

so it will be more rigid ?????

And if it is more rigid, can I get your process applied to my fifth appendage?

the sandin part might be a bit rough:dontknow: :dontknow:

At my age...any friction would be greatly appreciated.

yes it will be more rigid, not as much as my 3rd leg :) but I tried real hard to get it set level, like under the hood before I started, Im trying not to get it to rigid so it doesnt affect the plugs that hold it on. I am about to go into my shop and sand it down again, hopefully I can paint and clear tonight. If anyone wants step by step let me know I can sit down and write it all out, not to complicated, much like fiber glassing something

ask an honest simple question & it turns into a S%$T catcher, man

ok step by step

I started by cleaning as well as I could without wetting, a light brush and clean rags, then I put a coat of spray can krylon black paint. this was to help get the lose top threads to stand and stay put. then I use a fine grit sanding block to knock these threads off. then I mixed up a pint of Max Clr high performance iimpregnating resin, Its a two part type, I applied it with a sponge brush (regular brushes cant hack it(I learned the hard way) it lasts just long enough to apply the resin, use gloves!!! ( again the hard way) then let it dry 1 night, next day sanded with 150 and did another layer of resin. let it sit another night and was finally built up enough to really sand well , so sanded with 150 then 220 cleaned and now just applied first coat of black paint, will probably do 2-3 coats then the same with clear coat, then tomorrow I will by hand paint the letters

Great thread, thanks. Gettin ready to do mine. Prolly not the same way cause I don't want mine that shiny but it's cool. Thanks for the post, I'll sure be watching and good luck with the lettering!!!

RB04--- Looking good:rock:  ---- How much weight is this adding to the liner-- will the black pushin retainers be able to keep it in place????

I'm trying to make a decision whether to do mine soon
