X-Metal Gen 4 Shifter gripes and issues

I have the Gen X and no problems whatsoever - I personally like the so called "noise" it makes :D

Jerry had a little trouble putting it in reverse last time he drove it, but that's because he was shifting it like a 5 speed -BWAHAHAHA :p :p :p

I have the Begood fix in my notes, I'll post it up ......... :D

OK, here it is but remember it is a lot easier to tell you this over the phone than it is to write it down, at least for me.

First you must go to an auto glass replacement company and buy 1 tube of auto glass replacement urethane and 1 bottle of pinchweld primer that is made by the same company that made the urethane. Note: NOTHING else but auto glass replacement urethane will work, if you try silicone or anything else you are wasting my time for writing this and your time for trying it.

Next remove the shifter handle from the shifter and clamp it in a vise or anything that will hold it steady. Now take the pinch weld primer and prime the metal of the shifter handle where the handle makes contact with the shifter, and on the opposite side where the head of the bolts contact the handle. Let the primer dry for 15 minutes.

Next take the urethane and apply it the the areas that you primed. You want to form a coating of urethane 1/8" on both flat sides of the handle (the side that touches the shifter and the side that the bolt heads clamp down on). Try to make the coating of urethane as flat and as smooth as you can. Do not fill in the bolt holes or you won't be able to bolt the handle back on to the shifter. Now, you must let that urethane dry completely, it will take about 2 days. YES, I MEAN 2 DAYS! If cut corners or don't let it dry correctly and it still makes noise you have no one to blame but yourself.

While the urethane is drying go to the hardware store and buy 2 flat washers that are about 1" to 1.25" inches in diameter. The washers must have the correct size hole to fit the bolt snuggly. You will notice that when you put the washers on the bolts and align them up with the handle that the bolts over lap, and one will ride up on top of the other. You MUST grind the washers so that they don't ride on top of each other. You want them to butt up against each other without riding on top of each other. Now that everything is completely dry bolt the handle back onto the shifter, Tighten the bolts down REAL tight, and go back and retorque them after one days use. If you don't make the bolts tight enough the handle might move around. When I say real tight, I mean as tight as you can without stripping the threads.

If you did everything like I said the shifter will make NO noise anymore.

If any of you have any more questions, you can contact me at my work monday through friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM eastern time at 586-781-2899.

I know this will make the shifter STFU! It sure as hell did on mine.

I hope you 2 don't start singing to each other.

Well, Srth drove the truck last night. He thought it was user error. I giggled aloud when he kept missing second.

Although I am getting better at shifting it, I still have to lift off the gas to shift. Im quickly losing patience as to how hard it is to get in reverse. When I come back in from offshore Im going to pull it out and see if I can manipulate it anymore. I have the feeling it's about to become a garage wall ornament.

Sorry to hear that,man :(

I have always had trouble getting into reverse even when stock

eddie may still be wanting one :dontknow:

Lol seth.

My exhaust is getting freakin annoying as hell right now. Im very close to going get the cats put back on. When you came back home, we can swap trucks again so i can see if i dont hear it before then.

As for the shifter, id say buy another one or figure that one out. No point in keeping it if you cant use your truck to it's fullest ability.

Leave the cats out and put the stock muffler back on = much better sound :D

(but then I am slightly biased :D )

Naaa. Mine sounded much better with my high flows and bassani catback. We have two different engines ;). I will bite the bullet and get full 3" exhaust sooner or later. oh well. This is how my piece of shit set up sounds now

I'm trying to get OsirruZ to cut out his cats.....but he doesnt wanna listen :dontknow:

Not trying to ho up this thread but Rajun are you going to Pinks at No Problem Raceway February 27th & 28th? Got the Coronet signed up,might meet up with some VTCOA folks there.

Naaa i dont plan on it. but i bet id have fun if some locals went and competed! *wink wink*

Fear not Cody, when I get home the cats are flying out!! I like the way your truck sounds now. But don't tell Seth, he's gonna freak if he hears I spent more money on the truck and the car still isn't finished yet. Everytime I talk to him now, his fisrt question is, "car finished yet"? You have no idea how many times I heard that Saturday night, lol.

If Im off I will be out there. I was hoping my car was going to be finished so I could race it out there for that event. It's almost definite it will be finished by then but all the actual race slots are now filled. So if Im off I will be out there checking it out. If Im there, if you need a race crew let me know. Would be more than happy to help out. I live roughly about an hour from the track.
