Ya Can't Fix Stupid (or Thank You, Dodge!)

Since I'm officially on vacation, I reluctantly head out to do one easy errand. To the post office and back....simple.
It was not to be.

On my way back, some female nitwit in her little eco-box pulled out in front of me with NOT EVEN CLOSE to enough room- let alone enough accelleration. Especially in a 50 mph area.
I was doing the limit. Clear skies. Straight, flat, dry road. How she's unable see a massive, full-size black truck is beyond me. If your vision is that bad, you shouldn't be driving at all.

Did you have any lights on? This is why I "always" drive w/lts. on, even sunny daytime, It should and hopefully does help people see ya comin' and make them less likely to pull out. Never gonna stop all the idiots, but hopefully some.

BTW - Ram SRT10's (atleast '05) are equipped w/DRL's and can be activated by accessing computer w/scan tool. Hd. lts. run 50% snd go on/off w/key on/off wish it were the dr. lights, but anything is better than nothing, no need to remember to turn on and off, will always have something on and dr. lts. can still be turned on at 100% w/hd. lts. staying at 50% while in the prk. lt. position, all will go 100% w/switch in hd. lt. pos. Imho - this is a no brainer and everyone should have this done! Most may need to go to dealer to have this done, but should takes less than 2 min. once scan tool is plugged in to port. Tech that did mine didn't know for sure if it was avail. on this particular vehicle and had them on in 1min.

I have found more people pull out in front or cut it too close (no accelleration) lately than ever before.

I have a whole rant on this that I'll save for another time. This incident today was simply a very close call. Most of the time when idiocy occurs, I can handle it....thanks to the skills my dad taught me, my 2+ decades of driving, and the capabilities of the truck.
The biggest problem is my insanely low tolerance for stupidity.

This is not defending the gal, but I do have a question.

Is there anyone that has not done something stupid while driving? I know I have. Sometimes you just zone out. Hell, it happens to professional race car drivers at times. Go into a corner and realize at the last moment that you're in 4th, not 3rd, and wad it up in the hay bails or tire wall.

I guess it's why they are called "Accidents". Most people do not do it on purpose.

I hear ya, John. I've 'zoned out' while behind the wheel. Thankfully is was on a deserted road in the middle of NW Colorado where the only obstruction is a 14,000 ft. mountain.

This girl saw EXACTLY what was happening and knew what she was doing (or so she thought). Surprisingly, she was *not* on the phone. She did, however, keep checking her rear view mirror as she tried like hell to get up to 50 mph and avoid being crushed like Michael Biehn in "The Abyss".

If the headlights were cheaper and easier to access, I might do that. With my truck being a daily driver, they'd burn out quicker.
I'm also a very shallow person and don't like how my vehicle looks with the lights on during the day.

Like I said, if you need lights on and can't see a huge truck coming your way (or just aren't able to judge speed/distance) STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY. Take the bus or a cab or a limo. You're going to kill someone.

Believe I know all about stupidity... one of my pet peaves is people that rely on their mirrors only... I see it all a time... these people are the ones that create accidents because they can not take the time or effort to look around instead stead use their mirrors as their only source, Im allways get cut off by these people...but had they turned their head they would have seen my...god knows I dont know how the hell they dont hear me...

One of the things that seems to contribute to this problem (IMO) is a growing "entitlement" mentality...it is summed up this way..."I am entitled to this road, without regard for the wants, needs or condition of others"...examples: people pull out in front of you 'expecting you to slow down'; people drive in the left lane because they feel that if you want to go around you have the right lane to do it...A person drives very aggressively to get to work on time because they overslept...a person drives very slowly because they have no urgency in their travel that day...

I think it comes down to consideration....give other people the right of way, always. Don't put others at risk because you can't manage your time efficiently. Don't let anyone else ruin your day, because they can't do any of the above...

We absolutely need a change in direction and whoever becomes President will have to drag lots of people kicking and screaming towards a new approach to solving the multitude of problems we are facing. It may not be possible for the next President to be successful, they will have to be a change agent and most change agents end up impaling themselves on their own sword. Only history will document their success. And if this change agent is a woman, the seeming failings will reflect on women...and only serve to fortify the anti-female bias that many bigots have.

I hope you would reconsider your travel plans...if you are opposed to her, stay and make your voice heard rather than turn tail and run. Many of us have suffered President Bush, but not turned tail on our country in the process.
