Thought I might make at least an attempt to let everyone know that it is I, Hell Boy, who is selling my STS kit on F-Bay.

Equally important is that I come clean about how my engine was damaged (it was a broken ring land on #3, not a hole in the block, as dramatized by others).

Before I do, let me tell you that I sold five other kits to fellow forum members, and not one person has reported any engine problems. That includes smoke (Flyinglow), who, I won't deny, had issues with boost control, but has not suffered any damage to his engine. Besides myself and Phil (Big Asp, whose first engine failed during the R&D process, and the second when the boost was cranked up), who else can you name that had an engine failure following an STS install?

My engine was damaged because of mistakes that I made. Not because of design flaws in the STS system. Out of sheer stupidity, I drove the truck before I installed my gauges. If I had taken the time to install them, I would have immediately seen that there was no fuel enrichment under boost. As it turns out the tuning kits left Roe Racing without a program loaded into them. That, of course, is fixed by a two second card read into the controller.

It does not matter what power adder I put on, if I was dumb enough to drive it without knowing what was happening, and there was any kind of problem with the system or the installation, the outcome would have been the same. Be it enough said that I have learned my lesson, and will have full instrumentation before the new engine turns over for the first time. As you can see from my sig line, I'm also going to the Paxton for my new build. Primarily because of the simplicity of the tuning, and experience that they have with the Viper engine.

So please. If you really must poke fun at me, do so because I acted in haste. Not because I'm selling the kit.

Did anyone read this??? :dontknow:

58 ppl did. I would take a kit but the tuning and time required to make it work would not fit my schedule at the moment. I have no doubt that the system is capable of producing great results, but people have to be patient I think. I can only imagine how much fun it is to hear the turbo spool up during acceleration :D

That my friend is the best part.:burnout:

It blew my engine as well, I also got a kit I need to sell lol.

Hey man.....this is a tough call indeed. I have a block I paid 3 grand for off ebay that is scrap metal.....hence the feelings of "screw it, put it bak up on the bay baby"....BUT, I just have a feeling that Karma would catch up with me and I'd have another engine failure or something....

I kind of agree with you, but all the kits that caused engine damage have done so for various reasons. The biggest was overboost. Guys running more then 5 psi. Some of the overboost were caused by the incorrect connection of the lines. This is what happened to me, but my install guys caught this early on and changed the way my waste-gates are hooked up. Also I got a new tune from Roe prior to running the truck on the dyno. Since then I got a newer tune, but I'm still running rich under boost (10.0-10.1). Well really the only person I did not figure out how/why their engine got damaged was Sprite. But I believe it was due to overboosting by the lines being connected wrong. Now when I say wrong, I mean as per the instructions. The instructions for the QC's is wrong. Don't know why it is different then the RC's, but it is. I stayed in daily contact with Rick Squire and Sean Roe earlier this year when all this was going on. I was sending links to threads about engine damage to Rick. I also tradded PM's with everyone who had the STS. By doing that I narrowed just about everything down to the tune or overboost. One was running close to 10 psi with propane and then blew #3. I think the system is a good system, just needs some looking out. Now with all that being said I would not buy the STS again. To much worrying about blowing up my shit. But for the price it is a good deal.

Hey man....I cant tell ya how many times Ive changed my opnion on this subject......It STINGS a whole lot thinkin I got burned for 3 G's ....but then I dont wanna burn anyone in return. My case is different than yours. Your product has a chance of working albeit not so good a chance from history. Personally I think STS should be refunding all of you guys...

For what it's worth, before I knew this was Eric's kit I sent him a message through Ebay. He was very up front about the issues with STS and about what happened with his engine. So if a buyer asks some questions, which I hope the do, then they should know what they are getting into.

I tend to wonder what if? What if, now that these trucks cost less than they did before, someone gets enough money to buy one, then sees this STS as a great idea, at a good price. Then, if they don't do the research, but just install the product. When the engine gets damaged real bad, and they can not afford to fix it, where do they end up.
Sorry, thats just the way I think.

Bill.

Even if they don't research the product, and I can't imagine buying a power adder and NOT reasearching it, any problems would be caught from the start if basic precautions are taken. Again, if you have your gauges installed and watch them, you're going to see if there is an issue with overboost or lean-out, and can address it before driving it further. That, and driving it conservatively in the beginning should be more than enough to prevent engine damage.

What if someone bolted up a Paxton without doing this, and something was wrong with the fuel system or relief valve? Without taking precautions and having proper instrumentation, you would have an engine failure as well.

I take full responsibility for my engine failure. I acted in haste, and paid for it. Had I been careful, and responsible, chances are very good that my engine and STS kit would still be together.
