Update: The external oil pump arrived on Thursday. After mounting it was discovered that an odd sized belt is needed. One is being overnighted from the East and it is possible that the final dyno runs will be Saturday morning. The engine is reassembled and just waiting for the oil pump. They are expecting over 900 hp on 91 octane. I am planning on driving up to Reno on Friday and I will video the runs and photo the dyno sheets and forward them to Brad. The rear suspension needed one more part and should be done by mid-week (next week ) and shipped to A&C Performance , along with the engine from Exotic. Then final assembly, which will require some custom work to make the ARH Headers work and also a custom air intake system to feed the dual 80mm TB's. I am getting excited, it's getting close. I have really missed my truck and every time I go to Famoso with the CTS V....everyone wants to know..."WHERE IS THE TRUCK!" Get ready Lightning boys....I have a surprise for you!

Everything went good, just not as high a result as I was expecting. Let me explain. After the first dyno session when the oil pressure was dropping above 5000 rpm, they checked inside the valve covers and found condensation. There was also some concern (from Greg Good) about the Jesel lifters and the needed modification. The engine was disassembled, heads pulled, and it was discovered that there was a hot spot between the valves where the valve seats were siamesed at their closest point because of the large intake valve. There was also about a 15% leakdown starting. It was decided to reduce the intake valve slightly from 2.18 down to 2.125, that way the valve seats would not touch each other. The reduction in valve size cost about 2-3 % power loss on the higher end, but the engine should live much longer. The external oil pump and lifter modifications worked perfect, oil pressure was a steady 67-68 lbs through the whole dyno run. We tested with 91 octane fuel and then tried MS100 (100 octane) with virtually no difference in power. Chris Jensen was not there, but was helping by phone and computer link, but no real tuning adjustments were made. We did have to raise the rev limiter though. Brad will be posting pictures of the external oil pump and the dyno graph and numbers later. Since the engine had the factory cast flywheel (Exotics not mine) they did not want to exceed 6300 rpm , which is about peak HP as it was only rising by about 3 hp from 6200 to 6300. I have an Aluminum flywheel and we will set the rev limiter at 6800 and I will probably shift at 6500 unless we move it up with fine tuning on the chassis dyno.

Here are the final numbers: 862.2 hp @ 6300, 787.1 lb-ft @ 5000

Chris Jensen will be able to do more fine tuning once the engine is installed and on the chassis dyno. I will do a comparison of the first dyno runs with the 2.18 intake and the final numbers for comparison in the next post.:rock:

Here is a chart showing the difference between the 2.18 intake valve and the 2.125 intake.

So I lost about 20 hp across the range from about 4500 to 6000, but the engine will live longer and I'm happy with that. They said the idle (about 900-950 rpm) with out the mufflers is WICKED! I think the street manners will be fantastic. So much horsepower....but I will have over 650 lb-ft of torque from 2800 to 3700 before it starts climbing to over 780 at 4800 and still above 750 at 5800....it should be fun!

Jerry I would have liked for us to have a pow-wow about this. It would have been much better to cut as much as possible off the exhaust valve rather than the intake. But it's still a very mean engine. Congrats.
