So when I purchased my truck it came with a magnaflow catback on it. It had a decent little rumble to it but was very muffled. So, I had an exhaust shop delete the magnaflow muffler and put in two straight pipes. The result was not as I expected. It now sounds GREAT at idle, but like a damn ricer when revving to higher RPMs. Even when under load.

The before and after vid:

The drive test vid that the exhaust shop did:

Any suggestions for a deeper rumble during higher RPMs? Or is it just because it is a Viper motor that I get that "sports car" sound instead of the muscle car sound like was on my Hemi? On a side note, for anyone in the West Valley, B&M Muffler does awesome exhaust work! Thanks guys!

Dont mean to sound like an asshole, but what did you expect? You should have left the muffler on and take the 4 cats out, that will give you the rumble you want without sounding like a honda civic.

Put a muffler on it :D

There have been many combinations done on these truck. Some sound good, while others don't.
Best advice I can give is to go to any GTG's (get togethers) and listen to other members rides. Once you find something you like, ask that person what kind of exhaust is on the truck.

Don't sound like an asshole at all...as long as you are being honest. I just went the muffler route due to my experience with my last truck. I deleted the muffler on my Hemi and it gave it a nice low rumble. Not sure why it is so different on this truck.

its a viper, not a broke down toyota or chevy, put a muffler on it and give it some dignity
v-10's sound like ass without a muffler

i got 3" piping with magnaflow x pipe, two round 3" magnaflow muffler with no CATS and my truck sounds bitchin. Loud but bitchin

The drone with the auto must be hell. Talk to Stinker, he can set you up!

Any suggestions on a good muffler? I didn't like the magnaflow. Way to quiet for me. Had no real rumble.

Its not the muffler thats makin it two quite man. Its the 4 cats!!!! My truck on magnaflows worries me that i will be pulled over for it being to loud! And dont forget you got a 8.3 v10 there will never be a v8 rumble sound its gonna have a little raspyness in the sound

Yea i got magnaflow catback and im going catless soon, picking the pipes up tomorrow but im getting them welded in on the 16th. Cant wait.

Pull the cats like everyone else has said and put the Magnaflow back on. It will sound similar to the before part of your video but MUCH louder.

And besides, dont you get more hp gain with removing the cats instead of the muffler?

Yes. The cats ROB you for horsepower. Gonna need to get a tune after you pull those cats to turn off the rear 02 sensors though. For now just leave the fronts how they are dont put o2 bungs in for the rear ones, but keep them plugged in and zip tied up somewhere(do not let them ground out on the frame though!)

yea i needed torrie to adjust my tune anyways, its running abit rich so he said he will do everything once i get the catless pipe in. I just wanna hit the 13's on the 1/4 without my nitrous, i did 14.2@99 with everything in my sig.

An "X" Pipe instead of straight pipes would have given better results.

BINGO!!!!!

I had the same set up as you (but with Basanni headers) when I removed my Magnaflow and added a couple 26" Powersticks (basically straight-pipe mufflers). The sound was terrible. Sounded way too much like a ricer without mufflers. I slapped in a Magnaflow X-pipe right before the Powersticks and WOW did that make a huge difference. She sounds really mean now and it added some pep in her step. Oh and I sill have all four cats on her to boot so I won't have to get nervous around inspection time, don't need a tune to shut off the rear O2 sensor and the X-pipe is cheap and could get got from JTSVP..

idk....

from one who has tryed everything !!!

if you want it to sound like a v8 - trade it in it will never happen,...

i have tryed no cats, stright pipes, no res, res, all diff types of mufflers x-pipes, h pipes 10 or 11 diff setups and i just cut it off again.....

the best sound that i had was - stock manifolds, deleted rear cat's magnaflow muffler, and the rear res still there on a 2.5" pipe

just my .02$

Gentlemen!

It has to be said that all of us need to do the homework before planning our mods. Plan your work and then work the plan...Covey said: "Seek first to understand, then to be understood."

This forum and all of the others are replete with threads that attest to the fact that a V10 will never sound like a V8....period....

The pulse rates are entirely different, the firing order is completely different (go figure eight vrs. ten....)...

We all want that V8 thump and rumble...we grew up with it...there is one way: a great stereo system...
