What next?

What have you been able to run in the 1/4 with your setup?

Never made it since I got this setup. I was chasing issues with power steering pump and steering rack lines all summer. Our local tracks closed for the season right after I got it all good again.

I would of hit up the Mopar headers & midpipes.

I rode in a truck with 88's it spun everywhere, That was enough for me not to buy the 88 gears.

To each their own, I see my friends pull 10 sec QUARTER mile passes, and they don't use 4.88 gears.

But "it's faster on the street" hahaha :chain:

New sig line, "If you can't back it up with a time slip, then keep your mouth shut....:D"

How do you figure that math ?

So from light to light on the "STREET"

Let's just say, 1 truck runs 11.50 & the other runs 12.50 both in the quarter mile.

So how does faster on the street come into play ? Sorry that sounds lame.

even with a time slip.

I had 4:56's in my other, heard alot of good things about the fun factor of the 4;88's for street driving. I may hit the track twice a year at best, so not a big deal to me. Im sure ill never hit 10 second 1/4's in my truck. But if my 06 ran 8.4's in the 8th with very little mods (same run was a 12.9 in the quarter), than Jacks 7.2 in the 8th has got to be mid to high 11's in the quarter on 4.88's and never been in his motor. That sounds fun enough to me!!

I was being sarcastic about, that's why faster on the street was in " "

I believe jacks best run is with 4.56's....

Would you care to increase the RPM's to 6200? Just curious:D

I had family roll into town yesterday afternoon, and they'll be here through get weekend. I'll post a modified chart on Monday. :)

For the rest of you, especially you, ARRESTmeRed04, what is your opinion on using the steeper gears to compensate for living at a high elevation? The spreadsheet I posted clearly showed that there is no ET gain to be had with steeper gears. A 5th gear shift would be necessary to run anything faster than a low 12. There is at least one poster on this thread who has run almost that quick on street tires, with 4.10's. However, the DA at my track starts at 4500 and can run as high as 10,000 feet. That alone changes a 12 second truck to a 14 second truck. Wouldn't the gears be an easy way to gain back some of that loss?

That's an interesting idea, a simple way to test it would be to find some 28" tall street tires to bolt on to your truck. I do think that if your down on power it may help some if you can keep from spinning all thru first and second

Clarify for me, Homes: If I roll into the throttle now, I have no traction issues, even in first gear. Are you saying that with 4.88's that might not be the case?

Finding a set of 28" tires to try is a great suggestion! What is the shortest rim I can run on the '04 axle, without grinding?

Probably throw a set of 20 inch viper reps on there.

With 4.88's you exert more force on the tires than with 4.10's, which is what causes the traction issues. With my 28" slicks it drastically lowers my gear ratio, but I can also dump the clutch at 5k with them to take full advantage of the gear reduction. Any 17" factory dodge truck rim should fit on the rear. Are you saying that you can roll into the throttle hard in first and your truck hooks up? With mine it will light the tires up at will at any point through first gear.

With my truck 4.10 gears with cal tracs and other suspension mods, you could come off the line on the street feather the clutch out and it would not spin at all.

When I installed justins lower sway bar mounts, it felt more solid compared to the factory ones. Can't say the conti's would do that but the Nittos were great for street playing.

I hook up good with my qc it just chirps and then takes off then chirps going into second witch I love :burnout:

With the old Pirelli's I could stand on it anywhere in first and they would spin. With the Falken's, my tires don't spin at all unless I dump the clutch.

thanks!!
Glad you found it useful.

Depends on your diving skill as well. I'm excited to take these 4.88's and find my sweet spot, track times soon to come...:)
