I know its been said a million times, if you are concerned about MPG, get a civic. However I just wanted to see how good I could get it. I started by cleaning the throttle body, intake tube, freshening up my K&N, getting rid of straight pipes (it sounded like shit) and getting a high flow triple chamber muffler (deep, lopey V8 rumble now) and running a few bottles of gumout fuel system cleaner. Then I filled up with good gas and added a bottle of seafoam and also sucked a can into my intake manifold and let it sit there for an hour. SMOKED LIKE A BITCH!! Ran the truck for about 30 miles and got around 17 mpg on average. (see attached pic) A few days ago I was getting less than 9. This is a quad cab with 80k miles on it, so I guess the truck had a lot of junk that needed to be cleaned out. Pretty impressed with the results, especially with gas hovering around 4 bucks. Just thought Id share this, a little bit of preventive maintenance goes a long way. :burnout:

wow 17 mpg? Yeah but your driving it at 50mph right?

Well it does go down when I haul ass but if Im driving at a steady pace, usually highway or long roads, its a constant 16-17.

That would be kinda hard to believe since the factory rating was 9 city and 12 highway I know straight highway can be better I've seen my get 14 a few times and with my six speed now I can get around 17 highway and that's with the truck doing 70mph and turning 1500rpm so I'd have to say your read out is off

I have a 04 RC and if i reset the mpg and run 80mph on flat freeway in 6th gear i can stay right at 18mpg. Any down shift or up hill and it drops to around 16mpg. Realistic driving i get 7-8 city and 12 highway :D

I drove through a tank highway only at 70mph on interstate 40 out of nashville TN just rolling TN hills and averaged 17.5 in my completely stock RC 05 6 speed.

I just changed all the fluids to Royal Purple front to back so I am curious to see how much it helped I will be making the same trip next week so I will see what it does

oh and good job on the maintenance man I use the seafoam the same way.

I dump it in the intake til it smokes like you siad and almost dies then I kill the engine and let it sit that way everything gets coated good for a few mins then I drive the piss out of it to blow the trash out. saved a couple engines that way with gummed up valves

Yes its def a must do. Some people hate it, I swear by it! As for the other guy saying its so hard to believe that these can get good gas mileage..I was actively TRYING to see how good it could get, meaning no launches, wot, overtakes, etc. Just enough throttle to drive and of course all the other stuff. The big thing was getting rid of those straight pipes. I didnt realize how bad it was killing my performance. And it was ungodly loud :dong:

How is it hard to believe? All you have to do is look at the pic man, and its not off cause when I stomp it it drops down REALLY low. You can always improve on factory ratings, that goes for all aspects, not just HP/TQ  (not to be rude but you kinda contradicted yourself by saying you get 17 hwy lol)

Do you even know how MPG ratings are estimated? I bet you are one of those people that sue automakers because you got 30 MPG and they stated it was 32? There is no such thing as a set MPG, if you drive it right you will get good mileage, if you drive like you should you will burn it faster than you pump it in. Take my boss for instance she drives a Prius and complains that she only gets 20 MPG but drives either flat out or hard brakes no in between. I can attest to getting great mileage in the QC's, on a 300 highway, 50 stop and go city, mile trip to Jackson and back I took a picture at the end of my trip of my read-out because no one believes me when I say that the big V10 isn't to bad on gas when driven the right way.

This is stock no mods except a K&N air filter.

I'd run it more like 300 miles to get a decent average. My stock 04 will do 17-18 on flat highway at 70mph.

My qc with the six speed in rolling hills gets 17 but that's staying under 65 and really trying to optimize my fuel economy and the absolute best it ever got with the auto was 14.1 unless you were going down hill in neutral lol I'm very impressed with all the gains of the extra two gears now except for the fact that it will not hook up near as good in 1st and 2nd now

Couple years ago I drove from NC to alabama to pick up a John deere I got on ebay. I took the bed cover off and threw the 1100 pound mower in the bed. I averaged 17.1 mpg on the way home at 80 mph. I didnt take off like I was at the strip which I am sure helped.

First of all I'm not contradicting myself,if you look the only guys getting that kind of mileage are the Rc trucks or qc like mine with a six speed it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a truck turning 2000rpm at 60mph is going to do worse than a truck that turns 1300rpm at 60 mph and I agree improvements can be made over the factory numbers but I don't think your going to gain 3-4 mpg with a fuel additive,k&n filter and some sea foam!

Well bud, I see your point about the rpms…but again you said you dont think I can gain mpg with a little maintenance (you seem to have left out a few things) but all I have to say is look at the picture in my original post! A picture is worth a thousand words. If you still look at the picture, and the other guys picture, and still dont beleive….then maybe we should agree to disagree.
