Before buying the truck, everyone started at one point to gather some info of the differences of those years. Yes, I used the search engine but couldn't find the similar folder. I hope this information would be useful for every newbies. Yes, that's including me. I am using this new thread to make my own decision which year to buy. Feel free to add any additional info. Based on my research:

All of them are the same (colors slightly varies from year to year, RC=manual, QC=Automatic) except the:

A. Brakes
The brakes for the 2004 model (front and rear) and 2005-06 (rear) were modified from the Ram Heavy Duty truck for use in the Ram SRT-10. The standard ABS-equipped brakes were fitted with 15-inch (380 mm) rotors in front and 14-inch (360 mm) rotors out back. 2004 models used red-painted two-piston sliding brake calipers front and rear; these were replaced with larger four-piston monoblock calipers up front in 2005-06, designed by TRW and unique to the SRT-10. Two Nascar-inspired brake cooling ducts integrated into the front fascia provide cooling for the Ram SRT-10's brakes.

B. Special Edition
1. VCA (Viper Club of America) Edition - 52 produced, released at the 2004 Daytona Motor Speedway Race in February.
2. Yellow Fever - 500 produced, available 2005-2006 only.
3. Commemorative Edition - 200 produced, featured Bright White exterior paint with Electric Blue stripes, available 2005 model only.
4. Night Runner - 400 produced, 2006 model only.

C. Exterior
1. Another exterior feature was a tonneau cover with an attached spoiler that was supposed to come standard on the 2005 Quad Cab version and all 2006 models, but due to manufacturing problems was not installed on nearly half of the Ram SRT-10s intended. To help remedy this situation, Dodge added a $1000 credit and a regular spoiler to the Ram SRT-10s that did not receive the tonneau cover. In addition to style, the spoiler also helped with air flow and provided a reduction in lift and drag. The Ram SRT-10 had a bed size of 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m), giving the regular cab an overall length of 17 ft 7 in (5.36 m), and 19 ft 2 in (5.84 m) overall length for the Quad Cab.
2. For newbies who concern why "due to manufacturing problems, (the tonneau cover) was not installed on nearly half of the Ram SRT-10s intended", the tonneau cover was only increase a very small MPG. The air net is definitely way to go...but who cares about MPG anyways!! :D

D. Drivetrain
Gear______1________2________3________4________5_______6_____________Final Drive___________
Ratio___2.66:1____1.78:1____1.30:1____1.00:1___0.74:1___0.50:1____4.10:1 (2004); 4.56:1 (2005–06)

E. Chassis
1. Both the 2004 and 2005 are built on the 1500 Chassis
2. 2006 should weigh more because it is built on the 2500 Chassis?

F. Electronics
1. The 2004 and 2005 use the PCI Data Bus for the PCM and Accessories: On the PCI the individual components didn't talk together very well (Radio, Sirius Sat, CD Player, Uconnect, GPS Nav)
2. The 2006 uses the CAN Data Bus. The CAN Data Bus carries more data and allow the accessories to "Talk" better to each other. The Data Bus is basically like a personal computer. The Older computers had a data path that carried a limited amount of data at a lot slower speed than todays' computers. The "Plug-N-Play" components were more "Plug-N-Pray" back then. Todays computers carry a Ton more Data at a lot faster speeds and components "Talk" together much easier and for the most part without conflict. Also on the CAN Data Bus, the Primary Computer Module could monitor more portions of the engine and other electronics throughout the truck.

G. Seatings
1. 2004-2005: Three people
2. 2006: Two people

H. Miscellaneous
1. Only 2004 model doesn't have knock sensors

Says the GU7 with 7 pos23)

The 06 also has a hydro-formed and heaver frame along with a different electronics package (CAN BUS) and a 4.56 Rear gear vs. a 4.11 in 04-05

Never heard of a Final Edition either.

Thank you! This kind of information is what I need!!

The wikipedia is wrong, and every time it's updated they change it back to incorrect information. For the most up to date and accurate information go here.

Nope. 05's had 4.56's too.

Don't mind me, I'm just trying to follow along

Yes, I've tried to make the wikipedia more accurate, everytime I fix something it gets deleted so I gave up.

Tell me more about this Final Edition you read about and where did you find it. Most of the final RAM SRT-10 were Night Runners (not all of them) and the last one was a Night Runner but not the one advertised as being last... go figure

This will be a fun thread, as we all compare notes of what we've learned over the years

Just to clarify about the CAN BUS, I thought CAN bus is one of five protocols used in the OBD-II vehicle diagnostics standard. The OBD-II standard has been mandatory for all cars and light trucks sold in the United States since 1996. Only the 2006 model has Can Bus?

Some of the finer details, I have less than some have in their head. Most of my knowledge is based on what was made and when, what color, date of birth, build numbers. So I don't have it all, just more than one person will ever need :D

Clearly I suck at this and everyone has different information! It'll take forever for me to decide which year I want based on this thread. I want a black RC and which one do you all pick? and why? Thanks guys!
