Seems to be a disconnect between the DTE and where the gauge indicates relative to the post. Unless I can't drive it to the post. It should be noted that the fuel light came on while driving into work (a half mile to go) and this is what I found when I was leaving work.

So, I'm wondering how low anyone has taken the gas gauge. To the post? To the bottom of the red zone?

It probably drops all the way to the peg. Try turning your truck off and see where it rests. That DTE is misleading anyway, I've driven mine when it says "0" and it didnt run out.

Holy large pic! Crop! Crop! resizr.com imageshack.us tinypic.com Something!

As for running it low, not a good idea. Bad for the pump. Seems like these tanks are more accurate and have less in reserve.

He likes big pics, and he cannot lie.

My first day to drive mine to work I ran her out of gas :(
I was running late after cleaning her up for coworkers to see and thought nothing of gas level. I get in, haul ass to work and show 22 miles. Well it's 35 miles to my job so I was soon to find out that 22 meant 22 :(
There's a stretch of highway about 2 miles long that's uphill pretty good and while up this hill I showed 3 miles left. Once I approached the top of the hill she died.....fawk :(
I call a coworker and he brings me 1 1/2 gallons in a lawn mower filling type gas can, lol. Well it got me started while still on a hill and I got to the gas station and feel I barely made it there.
So...I believe my truck is very accurate and NO it wouldn't let needle sir on post. It was halfway between post and red area.
It died, lol.
As mentioned its good practice to never get that low and allow the pump to suck air. They tend to burn out after sucking to much air and gasoline not cooling electric motor.

Sorry for the big pic. I will use preview next time. I don't typically let it get anywhere near this low, but like V1 I wasn't paying attention until the ding. What surprised me the most was a fuel low ding on the way in to work and a DTE of 3 on the way out (taken 2 miles away at the closest gas station). DTE said 3 from the start-up to the station.

My Jetta will run at least 2 needle widths past E, which is a line. Was trying for a 700 mile tank once in that and didn't have the courage to go any further. Was 680 miles on +/-14 gallons, if my memory is any good.

I have driven a few times after the DTE said 0.
I would say once you are on 0 you have maybe 2 or 3 miles left at the very most! I did drive mine 3 miles past 0 DTE once and it stalled as I entered the Gas Station as it ran out of Gas. I'm lucky it did not burn up the Fuel Pump.

700 miles on a tank? Wow! I was just reading how the Euro's get 70+ mpg! Something like 1500 miles to a tank. WTF?! New VW Golf TDI BlueMotion is 'most fuel-efficient ever' with 73.5 mpg

For the guys at 0-3 mi dte, how many gallons did you fill up with?

When my low fuel light comes on I have approx 1 gal left in tank. Had light come on just as pulling into station, put in 25.1 gal. Cant get 50 mi when it 1/4 but go 100 when full before gauge even moves...

The 06's DTE meter doesn't count down to 0. It says "FUEL LO"

It will show 0 though when she gets low, low... When "FUEL LO" pops on I figure I have 30 miles to find a station. I've only ever pushed the envelope once and that's when I found "0" I was driving through a rather hilly road where gas was .30-.40 more expensive that back in town and was 28 or so miles in on a "FUEL LO" with about 5 or 6 miles to town, hit a incline and it popped up "0". Never seen it before so I freaked out and pulled over at the next station.

I don't like running her low, I most of the time fill up when it hits a eighth because I know it's not particularly great for the pump
