I replaced mine last year. When I bought the truck, the scoop was cracked to hell and back. I bought a new one and the attach hardware from Th Viper Store, and had it match painted at a body shop. I added a strip of the 3M double sided tape on the fwd end of the scoop, to help make it stay on the hood better.
All fixed up now. Also fixed the hood insulation and the firewall fluff that didn't get blown off after I took the Volant dorky scoop out of the hood scoop, because the air doesn't go into the scoop...right? Sort of proves there was a shit load of air going in that NASA Duct style scoop and when the CAI was removed it destroyed the insulation. So the CAI dorky scoop thing is back on, even if it only stops the insulation getting tore up. I have a hunch it will do more than that at 130+mph. Next outing I shall plug the laptop in and watch the air intake temp. That is what that area between the seats is for, the laptop lol
Went out of town for a change. Our roads are shit compared to US but still managed good fuel driving at the speed limit. Trip was approx 300 miles/500km More than happy with the outcome MPG US Or metric L/100km I can't see me driving like that very often. Maybe only on long trip. If I ever get down the South Island the roads are straight and flat so it should do even better
That works out to 21 Imperial MPG, which is amazing. I don't/can't use the Overhead Calculator myself as I've changed to a larger capacity fuel injector. Since doing so, the O/H claims I'm getting around 30 Imperial miles per gallon (not bloody likely). On a road trip with plugs gapped at .040, I'm pretty consistent at 18 Imperial. Rock On!!
Yeah I am stoked my tune and coils are paying for themselves everyday I go out. Be even better with an undrive pulley I wonder if the exhaust cut out should be open or closed. I figured closed as the lower flow at low revs would need a better chimney effect. Wow 18 is great with the internal work you have had done and gizzillion hp I always figured you are getting things right when they can return good mpg....can Hell post a pic of 30mpg off your O/H you win hahaha I was getting 20 mpg out of my 68 Riviera I thought that was good
Kiwi, did you remove the hood scoop duct? And another question, does the box mate to the factory rectangle cutout that is common to the right hand fender well? Any info will be welcomed.
Yes I did remove the scoop duct. But after all the under hood insulation and firewall insulation was ripped off I put it back on. Also a place to store it on the trip down. Proved to me how much air was being pushed through there at 140mph. Yes the hole in the inner guard matches the box hole. Mine also has hole in behind grill
Went for a blast today just because I could. Thought this is a nice road so going back and planted foot and easily cracked 150mph with exhaust closed running on 95RON Will be interesting with exhaust open and 100+ RON and the better tune....stay tuned....tuned hahaha get it!
