I just bought a 2004 Ram SRT10 with 45,000 miles. I am looking for some advice on what oil to put in it. The oil that the previous owner has in it now is 5w-30. It has a 710R cam and slow bleeding lifters (Brian Crower Lifters). He is recommending putting 0W-20 in it. I heard that 15w-50 Mobil 1 is probably the way to go. But, I want to see what everyone thinks...I heard 0W-20 is also a good one to go with. The truck is in Pennsylvania so I will mostly only be driving it in the warmer temps. It won't be out in the cold. Also, how much oil does it take? Please let me know what you think!

    Thanks,
    Joe

In warmer climates a synthetic oil around 10-40 would be just right.

    8.5 U. S. quarts.

Welcome aboard and congrats on buying a BEAST!
I'm on the other end of the planet so I will stay out of oil debates and let the locals use their expertise, it's well worth it.
Show us some pics when you get a chance

    Are you still upside down?
According to the globe I was looking at, you should be.

It can be confusing when when goes down the drain clockwise north of the equator and counterclockwise where you are.

Don't look at it and you should feel just fine.

Just waiting for the new guy to post us some pics. I like seeing guys new trucks as I know what my one means to me and how excited I am about it. Most of mates at work just laugh about how fuel it uses. There are a couple of them who really know what it is, they are real Mopar men. I think one has just bought a Hellcat. I will find out for sure.
Oops we seem to have hijacked this post

As long as the original poster's question(s) get answered, it's okay with me.
Hijacking a jet however, is far more serious.

As far as fuel consumption goes- The real-world gas mileage of a Nissan Armada is every bit as dismal.

Welcome to the RBC all the way from the Rockies. I run Mobil 1 0W-40 full synthetic in my 10 as per Dodge recommendation. You can get it at Walmart. Amsol is also great but pricey. Oil is cheaper @ Walmart than going to auto zone or Oreillys. Hope this helps.

I would recommend M1 0W40 FS from wal-mart. Best protection for your engine. It is ranked #7 on "the List"

Mobil1 15W50?!?.... how about #191!! Too thick and poor protection.

Royal Purple 10W30!?!?.... worse yet.... #208!!!!

If you REALLY want to run a W30 oil, go with #2, 5W30 Amsoil, or #4, 5W30 Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

Good luck with your choice. Cheers!

Agreed, I'm running 0-W40 Amzoil. More expensive, but makes me feel comfortable that my engine is protected.
