So with our engines what's the best way to plumb a catch can?? Vented or not vented.
 
Well, one way you can see and smell engine oil vapors and the other way you can't.

A 505 can't be very discreet while vaping.
Neither can people.
Do we need to keep it sucking crankcase?
Or do we just let it gas off?
Will it pressurise and make gaskets leak oil?
 
Unless your particular catch can is severely constipated, it should NOT pressure the engine crankcase up in any way; in fact it should reduce crankcase pressure caused by normal engine blow-by (less than 100% ring seal).

My new catch can has arrived. I shall fit that in the next few days. I will also replace bearings in the Throttle body while that's off as there is no external seal, been using a goop of silicon but throttle return is not the best.
Probably replace breather hoses as there is a slight vac leak there as well. Takes awhile for engine revs to drop to real idle.
 
If it takes a while for the revs to drop (even after you change the hoses and replace the TB bushings), have a serious look at your Throttle Position Sensor.
Disconnect the plug then touch the RED lead on the center-pin and the BLACK on either of the other (2) pins with an Ohmmeter. Then with your 3rd arm (using a wide-blade screwdriver), turn it semi-slowly back and forth.
It should be reading 100 at rest to 225 at full-throttle and have a nice linear progression up and down the scale as you turn it.
If it doesn't move smoothly up and down the scale and/or doesn't reach 225 at wide open throttle, it is buggered and needs replacing.

If it does work properly, you can forget all about this post and go back to admiring your hood emblem and catch can..

Still waiting for Tony from JTS to reply so I can order my under drive pulley
I have the exact same under drive pulley from him, and you will notice a quicker response when you step on the gas. Best cheap gain for the money for me.
 
Have you caught anything yet with the new catch-can?
hahaha I am lucky there was very little of anything in the inlet manifold and the hose to the intake hose is dry. Possibly because of our temperate climate. I am still glad the can is there for peace of mind. I have to wait for Tony at JTS to have some more UD Pulleys made :( Hope it's not too long. Are their Shifters any good?? If so I may get one of those too.

I was digging and shoveling railway ballast yesterday, working in a gang on our steam railway. We replaced 6 sleepers. I am sore and slept real badly. Still if ya don't use it ya lose it. 10 km on ex bike 3 km walk is an everyday thing now. So getting there.
 
We have a temperate climate here too. 30 today; Well temperate compared to Death Valley at 54.4 yesterday.

6 this morning and probably only 9 today. Without the AC going do I still get my 10RWHP from my UD pulley lol yeah right
 
All I know about railroads is from watching "Hell on Wheels."

What you mentioned for activity doesn't sound too much like resting though.
I think I am passed the resting phase and I need to get out there doing it. Slowly at first and suffer afterwards
