We can just continue learning new stuff!l I've never really paid much attention to the 06 since mines an 04 but it's never to late to add to the knowledge box.

Well we know those 06ers weren’t even a full years production so they don’t count

I finally remembered to take a picture of the chipped, painted grill. You can see why I want to do something about it, either painted it black, or, remove the black (making it back to chrome).

That's pretty chipped up. Maybe paint it until you can get a new replacement? It probably couldn't look any worse no matter how the paint turned out lol

That is the answer, thanks wifey.

No matter how well the paint is removed, or, if I decided to paint it, it would never look as good as the eBay ones. The cost would be minimal compared to the work I would need to do to get it ready for painting or paint removing.

@2005ViperRam I'm not sure if that link goes to the upper grill sections or the two on the lower fascia - I don't use eBay lol

Is your plastic frame all nurfed up too or is that shadows I can't tell from the pics? A whole frame and inserts could do it all lol

Not sure if you already pursued this or not, but I've seen this "blackout tape," as an inexpensive option if you like the black and don't want to replace the grille. It's currently $6 a roll at my local AutoZone.

Apologies, I haven't used the stuff, but I've been tempted to try it when I get an application. Seems to have decent reviews on Amazon, and it looks like it would be more chip resistant than any paint or Plasti Dip/rubberized coatings over chrome.

Might be worth a try .. I would test it on something first .. wonder how long it will last ? What was the price of a grill ? Compared to how much you would have to buy of the trimbrite ?

I guess it also depends on how valuable you find your time and what look you'd be going for. To go back to stock, looks like whole "billet style" grille assemblies (CH1200259) are between $85-$150 for new, non-OEM brands.

Aaaand $28-$60 per side (CH1201103 & CH1201104) aftermarket replacements for just the plastic inserts...But I believe you'd have to grind on the stock bezel because I don't think the factory used fasteners for the grille inserts.

The roll of tape is 1-⅜" x 20 feet. I'd be glad to test, but my real-world destructive testing would take a while.
I'm not sure the easiest way to strip the old paint off and not damage the original surface, too. I'm just thinking out loud here!

Here's the 06 and an 05 - check out the lowest grill (out whatever you call it) shape ....

Also I think the grilles up top are shaped different too - more angled on the 06

06 has different headlight shape and an extra orange reflector

Nice .. is it registered with the registry ?
I would think it’s not a daily driver and should be in the storage or museum . All #1’s tend to be a great investment if ever sold . which in time will be !

Many after market options to choose from , many have done just that over the years .. I agree that the OEM is the first choice . I just wish Dodge made then better solid quality and sturdy.. To many cheap corners cut and crappy plastic in todays auto world .

True regarding quality so I would probably go with whatever aftermarket i could find that looked oem but was made better. Are they plastic or metal? I have oem inserts NIB but don't remember lol
