2025 Project Post Ho Thread

Did a final gloss black on the Dakot hood and front fender then decided to do clearcoat on them ... SOB , I have a few spots that will need some small runs and 3 other spots fixed .. the runs will be no problem but the problem in the pics I have no idea what caused those ! Any ideas ? It happened on the second coat of clear on the fenders ... Now i have to wait longer before wet sanding and buffing .. spray cans are a pain in the but to get a smooth spray pattern ! Freaking HOA SOB's !

My guess is chemical reaction to something!

Like when laquer is applied over enamel. Maybe check the primer, paint and clear to see if that could have happened

You could go all out with some crazy paint design on those areas and make it look on purpose! Hahahaha!

Been theough all those reasons .. nothing i can come up with .. followed proceedure completly ..

I just used a scotch bright pad and soapy water to start fixing the areas needed .. it took them down a lot ,, going to be using super fine wet sanding paper next .. Im hoping those 3 areas are just the last clear coat .. seems they may be and I may be able to buff it after all .. Now were are my scraper razor blades to level out the few runs lol .. maybe ill try a safety razor and shave them .. Yes , that is a painters trick lol ...

I was thinking the same thing ,, they do sell wrinkle paint .. i used it on stainless steal when I made my super toggle switch and gauge console on my last 340 duster . It turned out perfect ..

After the scotch bright pad.. it will take some wet sanding to clean it all up and then touch up with more clear coat im guessing .

Heck if all else fails just rhino line the whole thing!!!

Sanded the areas ans ome most of the runs . Re sprayed the fenders with clear .. wont know ahout the results till tomorrow morning , it got dark on me hahahaha ... If it looks resonably good tomorrow I may start the wet sanding with 1000 grit and work my way up to 2500 grit ,,, Then find my rubing compound and buffing compound and see how the hood and front fenders turnout ..then head to the doors and bedsides .... still need to figure out a way to get the lower level of the doors , bed sides , tailgate and the lowest pats of the grill .. 60 grit sand paper barely does anything to it .. just trying to get some of the old flaking clear off the lowest part of the grill has already taking about an hour and its not barely half way ready to even prime it .. WHAT THE HELL IS THE CLEAR COAT ON THIS TRUCK .. The 10 is the same when I tried sanding on it .. being that tough to sand ,,, HOW THE HELL CAN IT BREAKDOWN TO BEGIN WITH !

1 lady I walk with had her car a while ago painted by Maaco .. nothing but a blurry reflection and rough orange peel paint job .. my Dakota would be 100% improvement over that paint job if I just washed it and threw a coat of paint on it and nothing else .. Maaco is a embarrasement IMO . I told her she should take it back to them and doma real paint job .
