Wow 797 that's out there. Going to start my truck today, back it out .....maybe a warm up run. I need to test the gene that is under the bench incase we have a snow storm this year. Have not had one since 2006. Nothing like a bit of dooms day prepping.
CAUTION: ANOTHER LONG POST
Yes it's great to start them from time to time if even to change which springs have a full-lift load on them.
Not sure what a gene is..snow shovel, snow blower, leaf/snow blower, a kid named Gene .. under the bench??!!
We didn't get much snow last winter so maybe it IS your turn.
797 is spry, foh sho and is right where it should be. Adding 23.5 h.p. per cylinder with Strikers and chamber mirroring on the piston tops along with LOW TENSION/low-gap rings and there you have it. A 100 shot of nitrous would likely be max. because of the gap; But..it wasn't built for that.
The rest of the added power (generally) is from a full point increase from 10 to 11:1, Headers, Injector location tweaking, injector height adjustments, friction reduction, reasonable camshaft with a super wide torque curve and a really good dyno tune.
It sure didn't come easy and took years of spare time and trial-and-error.
The little things can add up.
For example, the leanest Injectors were moved closest to the throttle body/away from heat.
Burn patterns can also help out. A Holley Engineer once said: "If your theory and results disagree, believe the results and invent a new theory". I've used that pearl a lot.
I tried to optimize every cylinder like it's 10 single cylinder engines tied to a common crank because, well, it is. Not a unique approach, but it works.
You should definitely be in that same power area even if it is being operated closer to the south pole than the north pole. Which reminds me of something else...
We should try this sometime...
I was north of the north pole in the early 70s and we didn't have cell phones to talk with like we do now. I was told the colours and shapes of the Northern Lights are mirrored at South Pole in real time. As a kid standing there watching the sky, freezing my ass off, I doubted the guys comments.
Years later, I would like to see for myself. So...when you get some spare time, find a gathering of Emperor Penguins to stay warm with near the South Pole and call me when the sky-show starts.
I can fly up to the North Pole and we could compare what we are looking at over our phones.
Sorry I dont know anyone closer than you are so, you're it.
