It's going now, I finished putting it together just a couple of hours ago. Running smooth.
As far as cost..
Tony is, beyond a doubt, the best vendor I have ever worked with. I bought a lot of stuff from him while I had the truck. He overnighted an intake valve, two valve springs, two...
I was referring to the fact that the engine had been "repaired" in the past. The pictures don't lie.
Kyle- I don't have a problem with you at all. I genuinely think that you saw a good deal on the truck, from someone who abused it, and bought it. I think part of you also acknowledged that it...
Just another idea that could explain the low miles put on it by previous owner, the hurry he was in to move it, the uncharacteristic lack of power (vs a friends truck). Maybe even the broken valve spring... Whether it was him rebuilding it and selling for a quick profit, or he bought a turd and...
Piston is pristine...
Work had been completed some time ago apparently. This isn't why I pulled it apart, this is just some evidence of earlier problems.
Well guess what I found..?
This motor has been apart before with damage to #2 cylinder, somehow. Look at the marks on the bottom of the cylinder head. Looks like something was chewed up pretty nasty. Of course, as referenced above.. None of this was disclosed.
My apologies.
Seemed I was under barrage after I started the thread, just had a sour taste in my mouth from the judgement.
I know that there are guys here that may be apprehensive about what is generally considered to be "expert" work. In true gearhead fashion I simply want to encourage...
That's what I have. I thoroughly enjoyed the transmission.. The truck is plenty of fun. It just isn't fast enough or comfortable enough. I have no problems with a mid/high 12 second vehicle if it's comfortable on the street. For it to be this uncomfortable, I either need it to be a work truck...
People like this everywhere..
Ever hear of offering an encouraging word? So much f$&@)/ng negativity around here from some people. I'd like to know.. What's your experience with this? How many times have you torn this engine down and down anything to it? How much money have you paid other...
The three on the collector, or the studs in the head?
The three on the bottom MUST be soaked with a good penetrating oil for a couple of hours before you twist the tabs off of the back of the nuts. Then you can put a 17 mm open wrench on the square nuts to hold them while you loosen the bolts...
Cosmetic damage to the piston only.. Very good news. New valve, spring, seal, keepers already installed on head. New head gasket, exhaust gaskets waiting. Tomorrow will start reassembly. Only took 5 hrs work to get to this point. I'm really surprised how easily this is going.. No jinx allowed...
You're right.. Never crossed my mind to try to fully understand the issue. That's a novel idea, maybe I should try that.
Just because I say that I understand the significance of maintenance and that I'm not an idiot, that doesn't mean that I am claiming to be an expert.
People assumed that I...
Have you ever searched for this topic, and read the stories about how often this has happened, including the circumstances surrounding the events?
Trust me.. I am not an idiot, I have been doing this for over 20 years, know my way around a vehicle, and understand the value of maintenance.. It...
I understand that you guys don't know me, therefore it's easy to make assumptions.
I have already told the dealer about the issue. I am already losing my ass on this truck to begin with.. This is likely exactly what happened to me in the first place. These things appear to be a damn time bomb...
Tony-
I broke one spring and bent a pushrod. I don't know if I have valve or piston damage, but I'm hoping I can just put in a new spring and pushrod, and call it a day.
And I need them ASAP. Willing to pay expedited shipping (next day) as necessary!
