So I changed the oil today in my truck for the first time since I have owned it (less then two weeks) because the dealership I purchased it from lied to me and said that they had already changed the oil. Imagine my surprise when I go to pull off the oil filter and see stamped on the bottom of the oil filer…â€Installed at the Factoryâ€. Not only did the damn dealership not change it like they said, but neither did the freaking previous owner....when I bought the truck it had 2900 miles on it! D@mn it!
Anyway…I digress…the reason for this post was that after I changed my oil and filter (filled the new filter with oil prior to installing it), I fired up the truck to check for leaks and get all the fresh oil moving about, I noted a nasty, what I would call a “banging noise†coming from the transmission…it actually sounded like it was coming from the tranny bell housing area. The best way to describe it would be almost like what a piston slapping the wall of the cylinder block would sound like. I wish I could be more descriptive then that. In addition to this noise, I noted my gear shifter was bouncing all over the place in the center console.
I never noticed this noise 15 minutes prior to changing the oil as I took the truck around the block to warm up the oil…but then again, I was inside the truck and not standing outside of it.
Is this normal???? I have never known Tremec trannies to be noisy.
Thanks,
Joe
