60' 2.0's on street tires, how to do it?

Trying to figure out how to get my 60' back into the 2.0 range or better with stock tires. I'm thinking if I could have done it last weekend my 13.151 (60' 2.2-2.3) would have been in the 12.xxx range (mind you alt of 6300 feet or so).

I was also thinking that I gained roughly 74 horses at the tires with my trip to PBJ a few weeks ago. My best time last year was 13.889. So if you figure 10 horsepower increases reduce your 1/4 mile time a tenth I would have lowered mine about 3/4 of a second which is right on with what I did ([email protected]). This should translate into a 12.1 or so at sea level I think.

As far as I can tell I can improve my times by lowering my 60' and getting cleaner/faster shifts.

If I were to go to a drag radial whats the minimum launch rpm I would need to reap a benefit of the tires vs the stockers?

Anything I'm missing? I may try another shifter if my 3-4 shifts dont improve. Anyone else with the GenIV have problems with a quick 3-4 shift?

All i can add really which might not be of help is to drop the psi to 20... I sprayed simple green once like mike said and thats when i cut a 1.8 at a track known for really good prep right after a whole lane of drag cars on slicks got it nice and hot.. I would say the track makes the biggest difference

hey D...

so you mean a 6300' DA right.....?...that means 12.0 at 120 sea level...which sounds right for your power (that is quick)..about 630 rwhp...

The drag radial rpm is based on track prep.....figure a 1.8x on a good track..= mid 11's at sea level....

Density altitude for my 13.151 run was close to 6600 feet, earlier runs it was 6300 feet. I had the rear tires at 25 psi, fronts at 40 psi. I know my shifts can improve so that plus improving my 60s will get me into the 12s (mid 11s at sea level).

I'm hoping to go to Kansas City with Joe from PBJ and some others in November to do some racing. I'd like to get a legit 11.xxx without playing the reduction to sea level game :)

22....22...22 is the psi number...45 on the fronts....

1 on the front shocks......

simple green the tires..

i run 20 psi in the tires and cut several 1.8 60' times on a well prepped track. at lacr and fontana I only got 2.0 60' times. But that was before the NOS. (power limited 60')

I don't really have a traction problem. I just need more power!

Shit I was running about 45 PSI rear at the 1/8th track by Boomers with the stock tires and I was getting just under 2.0 60' times.

I think my best was 1.932. I'll have to take a look at the slips again.

All I did was warm the tires up pretty good before the line.:D

On another note I am running a QC and don't have to worry about clutching it.

i haven't had any issues with my gen4 shifter....... if you're having trouble, boomer claimed to have a lifetime warranty on his shifters....... talk to him, if you can get hold of him.....

I do a quick slip from 2500-3000 rpm, even on the stock clutch it didnt stink from slipping it. Stock tires, no pressure change, 0 front/5 rear on the shocks, 1.9 60' on a decent prep track (first time out, I need more practice). If its bogging or spinning, your loosing time, its a fine line. Im going to practice more and maybe drop my tire pressure down like others are doing.

I run my rear tires at 20 psi and cut consistent 2.0s on the street tires. Launch rpm varies with track prep. I have been able to launch by dumping the clutch at 4000 rpm on a good prep, and sometimes have to launch at 1200 rpms if the prep is bad. Depends on the track conditions.;)

As far as the shock settings, I was thinking the rears would want to be on a lower (softer) setting. Once the front end comes up (with zero or 1 as a setting) you would want the back to come down with a setting on a lower number, helping transfer the energy from the initial launch to the rear. If the rear shocks are stiff then the transfer would somehow get lost as the rear shock settings on a "5" or so would prevent the back from squatting down.

Just trying to think this out. What am I missing?

not sure on your gen IV....i have not missed a 2-3 or 3-4 shift since installing mine. Oh do you have the rip stick? that made almost as big of a difference as the shifter did! I can't stand the ball.

with drag radials I can launch very high RPM and tires hook so good it bogs!

Took my center console out and checked out my shifter. The handle had a bit of play it so I resecured to the two bolts. I also adjusted it up to its highest settings from the lowest, figure it couldnt hurt anything. Hopefully resecuring the bolts on the handle will give me a bit more confidence when going from 3rd-4th. We'll see in 2 weeks.
