Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust, by his wife Discretion his daughter, Responsibility, and his son Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

I Know My Rights.

I Want It Now .

Someone Else Is To Blame .

I'm A Victim .

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

No kidding!!

How true this is, with the loss of aforementioned, I also believe the loss of respect, and true values, have been pigeonholed some where, the media plays a huge roll in the loss of principal, I think it really starting with tv and other forms of media?............$$$$$$$$

Good post, thanks for posting this....shared with another forum....

I received it from a friend in email and had to post. I thought it was a good one too.

Great post! It seems to get worse every day also....had a handful of library books trying to get in the door(we all know how fast I am:eek: ) a kid walked out and slammed the door shut in my face; maybe I'm old-fashioned, but what ever happened to holding the door open for someone?:dontknow:

I tell you, if any of you see my kids being unruly or not act the part of a child with some damn sense, or my son no open a door for a lady or daughters out of good manors. I want any of you to beat there @$$ because when I hear bout it, they would wish you were their father. i do not play when it comes to this. my kids are going to have common sense, respect for others.I never let them blame someone else for their shortcomings. However, their mothers are not like that. They let them run around and do whatever and when I say something to the kids i am in the wrong, or i tell their moms to beat that ass, and they were not brought up like me. However, when they can not control them who do they look at to fix it, they say I am going to tell your father and oh shit it stops. Let me say no to my mom, 5 across the eye. Shit has got to stop or stop having kids. A lot of ppl just let there kids do what they want to do. Shit, do not let that happen around me, because i will say something to you.

i would have got my ass beat if I did that... why is it a crime to discipline...? i had a hard time listening and respecting others when I was younger until my dad whooped my ass a few times . he taught me respect for others... thats what makes me who i am today... if I ever have children they will be raised like I was... there's nothing wrong with beating some sense into someone..IMO, maybe I'm wrong

You're one of few good parents left, Wormy..... And I bet you don't have to worry about your children being disrespectful because of that. :)

I'm surprised that there's been no comment questioning the source........... ;)

D

There's just no questioning common sense.:D

My wife being a teacher in a middle school, I can totally relate to the portions regarding our schools. The administration is made up of nothing but well-intentioned bureaucrats who fail to back up their teachers, yet blame the teachers when things go wrong.
