Just thought I'd see if there was any news on Indy's condition.
Saw him on the ground & it didn't look good.
    Hope he gets well soon.

I believe Kevan will be stopping in to see the family tonight, and will have an update then.
Last word was he was going to be kept "chemically down" for a few more days, then bring him out to see whart his neuro baseline will be.

Well I'm glad to hear that the coma is medically induced and not a result of the injury.

Sorry for missing your concern on the initial post Silver.... coma a result of head injury vs chemically induced.

    So...
His brain has a bleed and a bruise. The family was not sure of the extent of the injury.......
I asked if they had an idea if he had a Subdural, Epidural, or Intra-cranial bleed.......with or without a shift.....it was apparent they had no idea what the hell I was asking them. Understandably.

The family did say when attempted to "bring him out" he became agitated and combative.
The family will most likely have him transported to home via MICU, Chopper, Ect. as soon as he is stable enough to make the trip...going to be a while longer I would imagine.

Probably pretty tough for the family to disclose information to a complete stranger, and I am relatively uncomfortable disclosing medical info over the net....no offense to any of you.
Information regarding continued condition will be disclosed at the family's blessing.

I called Kevan tonight (lives close to the hospital) and he was not able to make it this evening for a visit.....but will attempt to go in the am.

I also called Phil's brother tonight, and left a voicemail.

    Go from there.

You can bet the family is overwhelmed.

Our card is going out in the morning as well....
Just a reminder that the family wishes to have them sent to Grant Hospital... not the address off his website.

    Here it is again:

    Grant Medical Center
    111 South Grant Avenue
    Columbus, OH. 43215-1898

In care of Mr. Phil Smith

Damn, I really hate hearing this. This has been like a black cloud hanging over me for the last couple of days, and we never even met. Get well Indy.

hey, what if we kick the idea around of doing a GTG in honor of Phil when he comes around? we could do it at my shop, or anywhere near him. i am a few hours south of him, and i want to show him what he missed, and get everyone together so he have his own VTCOA NATS!?

Put me on the list as well, Boomer.

I didn't get a chance to go by the hospital today because I was catching up on work that I blew off over the weekend. The good news is that I got caught up in one day. :)

I'm headed to the hospital in the morning and will bring back any updated information I can. I'm not an EMT like NBT, so don't expect any medical uber-lingo.

I will let his family know that we are all (and I mean ALL) thinking about him and hoping for the best.

Thanks for the info Ken. To my knowledge the "agitated and combative" state when bringing him out is a good, well maybe not good, but a positive sign. It's a lot better than remaining in a coma. Hopefully a few more days of the induced coma will allow a little more healing to take place and he will be able to rejoin us.

You are still in out thoughts and prayers Phil. Hang in there.

Head injuries can be a bit of a roller coaster ride for sure. I can assure you it has a lot to do with Phil's past medical history, extent and type of bleed, and overall health prior to his injury.

He can still make a complete recovery, and I know we all hope he does.

I just got off the phone with Kevan.

He was ale to get to the hospital this morning, and Phil is resting comfortably.

The family was not at the hospital yet...so that part of the "puzzle" is pending.
Kevan said he was going to attempt a visit later today, and he did leave a card and contact info for the family.

I have not had a phone call back from a family member yet this morning.

My card went out this am.

It was the freakest thing I'd ever seen, I stood there frozen for a few seconds waiting on him to get up, when he didn't move I realized this was bad, and ran back to the tent for help, while my buddy who's on our confined space rescue team at work went over to help Phil. This group pulled together like nothing I'd ever seen. VTCoA Rocks...
