Anyone have expericne with a BMW 545i or 550i... 2005 to 2007..

I think we can go to cost per mile at 40k and shock the BMW owners severely.

But operating cost is not the issue I was foisting up...it is the total reliability of the vehicle...it just runs without any issues. Great engineering...and a lot more technology than my truck!

Ehhhh.... My '90 M5 ran for 167,981 miles without ONE SINGLE service visit. (Did all my own maintenance) :dontknow:  I bet your (little, sickly) batteries will need changed by then.... :p

Prof.... Did you know, your Honda Prius has more or a environmental impact than a Land Rover, by the time it gets to the show-room? :dontknow:  :congrats: :slug:

As far as Smg issues go I've dealt with clutches getting toasted prematurely due to programming/software issues. Have dealt with the hydraulic pump and actuators failing and a few other things. Anytime these fail the car turns into a paperweight. I dont know if ur intending on buying but if she really wants it just lease it... Overall the 545 is a bitchin car but ........I guess since its for her she'll love it... All girls want a BMW

No greater words were spoken on this thread.    I TRIED to get Sarah a 330Ci.... She wouldn't have it.... She wanted a Mazda RX-8. :dontknow:  ..... I got her what she wanted and she couldn't be happier (even tho, the 330Ci was $15k MORE!!!!).

    :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:     ;) ;) ;) ;) :congrats: :marchmellow:

While not the same thing...it is the same concept...I bought the Prius because Christine is a scientist and she felt that she wanted to make a statement in support of technology approaches to solving our impact on nature...while the Prius was not carbon footprint positive, it was the tip of an iceberg and if you look at the direction of all of the vehicle manufacturers I think you will agree that she was successful.

At the beginning of new approaches there has to be a group of early adopters that are willing to endorse the product, idea, person, etc. to get the ball rolling...she wants a new one, I will comply. I am dragging my feet a little hoping that she will shift her attention towards the new Tesla...

ohhh ya FerrariTruck i found a 07 550i fully loaded minus the headus up display with sports package cold weather package premium package and SMG with 15k miles on it for 39k.....

vs...

a 05 545i with the same package but has heads up instead and 48k miles.. for 28k..

extended warnty would be put on for both .. but would it be worth it to go for the 07 for the extra 11k? or just get tons of warnty for the 05 ...

only plan on driving it for maybe 3 years max ...

and with the SMG issues is it ok if your runnign warnty or just not worth the hastle.. the reason i ask again is i drove a smg car and it was fun as hell .. so ill be takin the gfs car out when the truck is parked .. want to have some fun as well.. and well she dosnt like the stick... wich i would prefer.. so thats a no go

FerrariTruck, what's your take on the new M3's (with the V*)with the SMG, have they made it any better? I was thinking about picking up one for my lady. Thanks dude!

The M-Differential.... It's electronically controlled through the i-Drive system. ..... All the tech muddles the car up, if you ask me.

I only have second hand knowledge about BMW's and it may be true that the technology may not be acceptable to all drivers and it may even be problematic. But some of the technology that BMW has applied to its vehicles has been revolutionary, and cutting edge. Now that does not say that it is perfect, but some of the things their engineers have achieved just boggle my mind.

Besides knowing that they are by far the fastest car it offers I know nothing of it yet and only a few techs and shop foremans have gone to school for em... Prolly wont know anything about em till next year it seems. From what I've seen though avoid the first year;) Bmw has a track record for fucking everything up the first year

I had to think about this and no just get the 05 if your going for fun factor. But I really urge you to avoid an SMG..get the auto, it will be just as fun

They have done some innovative things in the past.... Usually on their 7-Series models first. But, if you want to see what will be on your car in 10 years, look at the newest S65 AMG (or CLS63/65 AMG) Mercedes-Benz. ;)

I agree Jake, bleeding edge technology...which is a lot of the elevated expense...it costs to be first...

You have impeccable taste and good judgment...

Would you send Sarah over, there is a spot on my should blade that I can't reach and it really itches...:D

1: I wasn't aware BMW still made a 545... I think it's the 528 535 and 550... out of those 3 I've driven them and the 535 turbo is tough to beat and the 550 just isn't worth the extra... you may as well get a used M (which may be cheaper than you think)
2: Audi's and Merc's are as big and in most cases bigger pos's than the bmw counterpart... the e63?? handles like ass... the cls?? ass.... I owned an s600... it was fast... but was pretty much a 125K p.o.s. I'd never buy another... the audi's are pretty sluggish imo.... but take me saying it's a p.o.s. with a grain of salt, because I think everything is a p.o.s. it's just a matter of degree
3: yeah the idrive takes a ph.d?? who said that... yeah it's such a bad idea that merc and lexus copied it LOL... my frickin 4 year old could do the idrive in my M that is when she wasn't busy doing the voice commands with me...

Get her what she wants... get CPO (the warranty is worth it) and don't bother upgrading as you'll definitely blow the warranty outa the water... If you want it as fast as an SRT-8 you'll buy her the M5 (I loved that mine)... and hell the lease deals on em are pretty crazy... check swapalease...

if you're going to buy and don't want the M... I'd highly reccomend looking at the 535 with the turbo... and the auto (SPORT) transmission... I've driven em ... they're plenty fast & plenty fun...

I'd agree that you should prolly stay away from the SMG, had it in mine and it while it shifts fast when you're racing it's annoying in daily driving...

good luck :)

btw the auto (SPORT) has paddle shifters... (not big ones like the M) but it's still fun... you should go test drive one... 535 .. with the SPORT auto tranny...

Thanks...

And she cut all her nails off. :( :dontknow: My scratches are finally starting to heal. :D :marchmellow:

The 3.5L Twin Turbo motor seems to be a fantastic engine. We looked at the 335ci, but just couldn't get over how ugly it was.

I have the Smg on the 335 I. I can tell you the advantage with the SMg is no human can shift faster than the Smg:rock: Plus No Clutch:rock: we are talking about 80 milliseconds to accomplish a Shift with SMG:rock:

thanks for all the input ... more of a responce here than on the bmw forums lol...... were still searching for the right one.... in no rush... gotta find a kick ass deal...
