Anyone put 4:11's in a Quad Cab?

unless your a racer , it doesn't affect performance too bad, also raises a couple mpg

If you search for 4.11's or gears you'll likely find 100 threads. It comes up a lot.

I've done it on a few trucks. Mine with 6 speed and a couple others with autos. 1st gear was much more useable and fun as well as 2nd. Customers went from 12.5 to 14.5 hwy and my own achieved 19.5 over an hour drive. GoPro'd as well for naysayers

What was the general reason for going from the 4.10 gears to 4.56 by Dodge?

I believe the 4.10 were chosen in 04 to beat the pants off the fastest truck in the world record. After that was accomplished, 4.56 for the street driven beasts.
Kinda like Vipee cars with 3.07 gears that go 60-70 in 1st gear! Well 4.10s aren't that extreme but I think 3:73 would be perfect!
The trucks came with a trailer hitch. Between 4.11 and 4.56 gearing, 4.56 is better for towing. Could be the reason.
Final drive for the QC is about a 3.14 ratio and the RC is about a 2.05
That's quite a difference for slowing the engine down on the highway for any given road speed.

I'd be interested in a little more detail about this swap as well. I have a QC that will probably never see a trailer on it.

Well, they weren't rated to carry crap per the manual and although the gearing, power and rear end are there, the suspension isn't. QC especially. I have warped spring trucks often! RC not an issue yet still not rated to carry more than a JetSki/Snowmobile (for you Yanks, lol)
Now, having said that I've towed 3500lb cars with ease although the springs squatted even with tongue weight correct.
Viperhauler has been known to haul dang ole backhoes with his truck so RC will do it, but not at all what SRT designed for.

If you decide to lower your beast I recommend going to a RC spring pack and rear end from an 04 if possible for factory setup 4.10s. Or give or take $700 for swap in your rear from 4.56-4.10. May sell your stock setup for $150
Personally, I like the 4.56s in the QC; it helps them out for let's say the under highway speed stuff.
Like we have talked about though, a converter makes the biggest difference in that range in the QC. WAY different animal with a good 26-28 installed.
I haven't really carried anything in the back except for a floor-jack and Drag Radials.
Like you say, towing isn't really what either version of these trucks was designed for.

That's a tough one to answer.

Traffic Accidents
Tire Problems
Speeding Tickets
Changes in weather
Car-jacking
Lost wallets
Lost cellphones
Taking a wrong turn
Vehicle Theft
Bad food or water
Fatigue
etc...

I wouldn't hesitate but would add air bags to the rear. Cheap and effective load handling. Rear sway bar helps dramatically when towing as well.
