All right so I've read a ton of threads with the problems on the auto trans and was just wondering is this a luck of the draw type deal. The truck I bought has 55,000 miles on it and is mostly stock but it shifts pretty hard, I realize someone may have done something do it all ready but are there people out there that have autos that haven't had problems?

The 48re (Auto in our trucks) is derived from the Cummins Diesel line, which is derived from the original Torque Flight 727 used since the 60s. The addition of a lockup torque converter and overdrive gear are the difference.
The difference in ours and the Diesel 48re is nill. Basically the Torque Converter and ours has a throttle body actuated/cable driven throttle valve in the tranny versus the electric computer driven one in the diesel. They are built by a few guys, Dusty Hawk (HTS), Suncoast, and many others to withstand alot of torque and power.

Factory they do shift out nicely and should produce a nice, solid shift under throttle. (nice 2nd gear chirp). :burnout:

Slap a GM solenoid it, adjust the bands and most important....call Tony for a nice billet torque converter. And maybe a shift kit later.:)

oh and waitin on a moron to call me back:mad: so I can get your stuff , not neglectin ya bud at all;)

So whats a 100 shot of nitrous going to do it, everyone once in a while? Sounds like a lot of people that had auto trans problems had them from day one. I mean obviously prepare for the worst but I was wondering if some people had been running mild power adder setups on any of this trucks and not blown up the auto?

Slap a Paxton on there an enjoy it longer. Atleast a little longer. :D :D

Mine also shifts hard. Barks 2nd gear often too. The service manual says to drain and replace the transmission fluid every 6k... apparently the previous owner of my truck did as the car fax has all the servicing done to it.

I agree- I have a truck with a procharger (not Dodge) and it seems centrifugal would be the best bet, especially since these things make decent torq down low anyway. But my wife is still mad since I traded our Corvette on this thing so can't spend that kind of dollars just yet:( I thought I might just put a little spray on it to tide me over for awhile but I'm not really wanting to grenade the tranny in the process. I'm just a little suprised given the nature of 727s and the fact the diesel trucks put out the kind of torq numbers these trucks have easily that so many people have had issues.

56500 miles and tranny is slipping :(. Looking for a rebuild kit and tq converter now, opinions welcome.

actually just got with a large tranny operation today phunny, we do billet converters also , but I can check on price of trans if needed, they have a 18/18 warranty or a 36/36 warranty

do you want the red hi po bands, or the blue racing style, proba red would work best for ya the other too aggressive, but I will have to check tomorrow buddy, its a little late today , but will write it down now

the convertors are gonna go like this

they are billet , and 2400 area stall

they retail for $1300

but I will sell them for $1225 without a transgo shift kit plus shipping
or $1300 with a transgo shift kit plus shipping

but will check tomorrow for ya phunny

Im new to the experience but I can tell you so far it shifts like a FKING MULE KICKING with little throttle. I love it =-)

The torque converter softens the stock shifts enough, that you'll want a shift kit jsut to get the stock shift back. I'm sure it can be adjusted to kick hard, also. But the torque converter is a must.

well to give an example Santeen dropped three tenths not in the quarter mile but in the 1/8th mile! in a quarter he may pick up another tenth or two, so almost a half second drop in quarter mile times:rock:
