Didnt know if a mod wanted to make this a sticky or not, or if its in the right section if not I apologize:eek:





But Christmas and the holidays are comming guys:rock:

and a ton of us will be buying over the internet, and I figured everyone could share there do's and dont's of paypal problems and suggestions.

Paypal is pretty much safe and reliable and free to sign up.......but


UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST YOU EVER REPLY TO AN EMAIL STATING THEY NEED YOU INFORMATION UPDATED!


Paypal will never send you an email like this, many have been taken for thousands of dollars with this kind of email, and with christmas comming, the email will start to appear again.

Also always try to deal with someone that is "verfied", that means they have been approved by paypal.

I also just now noticed this........

if you are sending money or requesting money,

MAKE DOUBLY SURE THE PAGE LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD!

if it doesnt then log out and back in again jsut to be sure.

I use paypal alot , actually for years, and have never ever had a problem to date.


but you also get used to how a page should look and if it doesnt look right , dont use it.


If you do think something is wrong LOG OUT!

AND CALL PAYPALS CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE!

good info Stinky, you'll also notice that your secirity icon is on (usually a picture of a locked padlock) when you are on any of the secure PayPal pages. Newer versions of Internet Explorer also show the address bar in green when you are on a secure site.
 
Sorry Tony dropped the ball on this one.

Also look for a payment screen to flash if you see a screen and it blinks, refresh it. This is what you call a mirror site. You send the money with your info and the guy across the country is watching and has all you info. Its also known as web site piggy back'n. This happen to me about 2 years ago.

SO DO NOT

1. Give info to unknown emails
2. Look for the secure (PADLOCK) on each site
3. Watch for possible mirro sites



Keep the list going.......Safe Shopping !!!!!!!!!
 
I have gotten 3 fraud emails this week alone that my bank account password needs to be changed and just click here to make changes. :mad:
 
Yeah, I've been using paypal for about 5 years and I haven't had an issue with any of these things to watch out for. But that doesn't mean we should feel at ease and comfortable all of the time. I mean, these perps get crafty enough to stop piggybackn' (like Mark mentioned) and may start sheep-backn' to nab unsuspectin' peeps like Tony. :dontknow: Ya nevah know. Have a happy and safe shopping season bros..

Yea, I got them fake PP and ebay ones regularily for 1-2 yrs, but havn't had any for about a year now (knock on wood) and yet they are still happening, what's up with that?

Weird thing is (atleast on the ones I used to get) is how good the people making them were that they could mirror those pages text, graphics, etc. to make them look real and yet make very obvious spelling and grammar errors.
 
Just got one stating that someone from a European country was trying to charge my account and to log on using the link provided to verify or deny the charge
 
Make sure you are protected for up to the amount of purchase. Some are limited to like $200 and if you buy something that's $1000 and there are issues, you are only covered for $200.

The email that Stinker was talkiong about holds true for all lenders, banks and the like. They usually only contact you thru the mail. NEVER reply to anyone via email. They are always scams. I don't know anyone that actually contacts you to deal with your account via email. If they do and they are legit they usually tell you to log in thru you account and not their link I believe.

Very good advice.I have gotten that email on several occasions.NEVER reply to that crap or you stand to lose your ass.:D :D
 
another little easy thing to look for are typo's and/or misspelled words; l've gotten many of these 'spoof' emails from both fake eBay and Paypal pages, and every single one has had at least one or two misspelled words, usually something like banking instatution or immedite response needed...then l just forward it to [email protected] or paypal.com
