Changed my Shocks....

Exxon from the springs I had tested from other competitors , they were undersprung, or actually a better term is they were the wrong spring rate, they were a good rate for a v6 ram , but not for ours:eek:

Glad I asked first. YES the truck has more miles now than horsepower, lol. 1533 miles just got it back from Underground Saturday.

do the springs you have get rid of it?

Honestly I havent had any complaints yet, nysteve said he bottomed a couple times, and I think Carl did, but thats the only two I know of , and steve lives in NY, and carl in ???canadia or scandanavia or something:p

but they drop 1.5 in the front, and are 10% stiffer than oem is , oem rate was 750, the new spring rate is 860.

I want say you want bottom bo, especially in pa, but I would think you would have a lesser chance at it:)

And they did an awesome job on your ride, but surprised you didnt come home with one of there lambos:D

I have pledged to myself to never say anything bad about any other vendor or there products, be it DJM , belltech, or the x brand;)

but I had one customer highly upset with his kit, he told me what it was doing, bouncing and bottoming out, i told him I could probably get a set made, he sent me his, along with an oem set, they tested both, and the aftermarket set was around a 600 spring rate or so , the stock was a 750 spring rate, so I had a set made up that was 10% stiffer for him and his was as happy as a lark, then I had a set made for hotram that was 20% stiffer an he likes them , but they are little too stiff he says , so I may eventually swap a set of 10% springs out for him..
And thats how the kits began:D

and yessir , all the parts in any of the kits are availble separatly.
the springs unfortunatly are the most expensive part, especially with steel going up so freking much:eek: the only thing left is blocks u bolts and bumpstops and sway bar bushings

Thanks Stink.....I might talk with you about the springs....there was such an improvement when I went back to the OEM shocks I want to drive it more before changing springs.....

definitly do bro, and honestly for the strip a softer spring is actually better:D lets the front end extend upwards easier.

Now I know MMtrq went to the qa1's and said that the springs worked better , but I think he had them at the extreme position if I remember correctly:dontknow:

Other springs arent bad, and not saying mine are the best, I def dont know more than the larger companies that have billions of $ to do testing with:D
but I dus my best to make the fellars happy:rock:

This thread rocks and is one of the main reasons I come here. Only thing is now I'm confused. My QA1s are on 10 and it only bottoms out on one side and it's nothing too major, just an annoyance and an ugly sound, like someone kicking my baby lol. Not sure if I should run the OEM shocks, only thing stopping me is the fact 8 on the QA1 = OEM (from what I have felt, hand push test with both out and driving). So I still have 8 more settings to go firmer there for helping my bottom out. I may go to 12 which is what I believe MmmTorq set his on and he had bad understeer at time when going hard. Wonder why I'm having this bottoming out problem, maybe due to RHD?

I can still get mine to bottom out on 10-12 but thats when I am driving the piss out of it.

For everyday driving the 'X' springs and Bilsteins are great. If you are serious about doing any track time or drive like I do ;)...Then I would move to a stiffer spring that was designed for track use vs just load.

I am not happy with the suspension in my truck but it does the job. If ever given the opportunity I would rip it all out and start from scratch :D

I will bet that the 20% stiffer than stock springs that I got from Stinker will NEVER bottom out .

Being as low as I am in the rear, dips in the road are scary ! It hits the frame HARD. My solution is to raise it about 1/2" to 5/8" and see if that helps me.I knew before ordering that this was a potential problem ,so it is totally my responsibility. The upside is that I have learned a few things. And ,it is very easy to cut off the blocks to get the perfect compromise between looks and handling/ride.

I thought the title was "Changed my Socks" too..lol..I was thinking to what?..Argyle?..gold toe haanes?..Odor eaters?

I'm running the X-Metal front springs and had my QA1's set at 10 in the front and experienced some bottoming out (right front tire rubbed on the wheel liner). Since then, I have set them to 12 and it hardly ever boottoms out. I was thinking of trying out a taller progressive bump stop. I have them already made, just haven't had a chance to put them on. I'll keep everyone posted.

I just finished reading the whole post and wow, this answered so many of my questions. I bought my truck over a year ago, and we knew it was lowered, but had no idea with what kit. I found out after spending some time under my truck installing my cat back, and doing my first oil change that it was x-metal due to the fact all the shocks have x-metal printed on them. Previous owner also had helper air bags installed in the back, i guess for towing, because the truck has a elec tow controller.

I always wondered why on the highway hitting bumps at 80, that the truck jumps around and almost switches lanes. Also i have had a year to play with the air set-up, and when i have no air in the system the rear and front are almost even, rear seems to be lower at times. Big difference is that with no air, she dips down hard in the rear when punching it. So i started filling the system with air, and now i can feel the power to the pavement, the rear does not dip.

So with all this I want to go back to bilstein, but I do not have stocks, so I will be buying new ones, found a set of 4 for $250 shipped, checked part numbers of Bilsteins site. I am just wondering how hard it is to switch them out, and do you guys have any tips for me on doing the change? Thanks so much.

Actually pretty easy, with a few hand tools. Or stop by your local tire store, should install all four for about 50 to 75 bucks.

That's good info and I had previously thought about upping my front end to 12 (from 10). That is what I was planning to do and your post just set it on concrete. 10 is good but it could be a little firmer. I'd rather have a firmer ride and less comfort for a better handling and less bouncy truck. It's a performance truck, not a luxury car. :D One thing that differs is yours is a quad cab. Not sure how much that would change the feel and ride but IMO it's still close enough to related to. Both have V10s and the goods up front.
