Cylinder Head Mods

Picked up a set of stocker heads. My plan is to port match and polish the intake and exhaust sides. Can slightly larger valves be installed or would I hurt velocity by going that direction?

Can they also be milled for a bumpo in compression without fear of the valves hitting the pistons? If yes- what is a safe measurement to mill off?

I also picked up a stocker intake and the plan is to port match that as well.



I might drill and tap each runner in the intake for nitrous nozzles- small shot- but direct shot down the port....

I will have the intake coated at Jet Hot when all my mods are done for temp control and some bling to match the Mopar Long tubes that are Jet Hot coated.....

You can go slightly up on the valve size but not too much. 2.02 x 1.60 Won't be a huge difference (only with Strikers). Not much room left on the heads.

They are about 20 bucks/valve (Manley).

i just got my heads back from the machine shop.. they took mine down a 16th of an inch.. i don't know if thatll make any real differnce in compresion..i stuck with the stock valves just went with a 3 angle job instead of the stock 2..... you can do all the port matching by hand if you have enufftime....the machin shop i go to charged me 50 bucks a head to port match them... will more than likely have them do the intake as well when i get home from work....also another thing.. theres a company called Nitrous Outlet or nitrousoutlet.com they are making a Nitrous Plate that bolted behind the throttlebody..... if you only planing on running a small shot it's worth every penny....the plate should be less than 500 bucks... last i checked they were at the machine shop getting cut!

i just got my heads back from the machine shop.. they took mine down a 16th of an inch.. i don't know if thatll make any real differnce in compresion..i stuck with the stock valves just went with a 3 angle job instead of the stock 2..... you can do all the port matching by hand if you have enufftime....the machin shop i go to charged me 50 bucks a head to port match them... will more than likely have them do the intake as well when i get home from work....also another thing.. theres a company called Nitrous Outlet or nitrousoutlet.com they are making a Nitrous Plate that bolted behind the throttlebody..... if you only planing on running a small shot it's worth every penny....the plate should be less than 500 bucks... last i checked they were at the machine shop getting cut!

I'll be doing my own port matching and polishing. And on my Pro Mod Diesel I have a co-sponsorship parts deal with NX Nitrous Express, so I have their catalog already eyeballed for the hardware....For the valve job I am thinking a "full radius" cut which is one of the best valve seat/face mods for enhanching the flow.

You will pick up around .4 of a point in compression just by using the new gold colored head gaskets instead of the old black ones (the gold ones are .014" thinner).
Porting the intake manifold runners will slow velocity (all else being equal) as you are making them larger. However, done properly, it should allow for a bit more top end.

A 16th of an inch is a TON, your intake will have to be angle milled or it will not fit.:rock:

ok in that case i know it fits properly...cause they did it with the short block measuring it out.....but...iv got no clue how much they took off lol i thought it was a 16th guess im wrong

3 angle valve job and new valves. Then what?

Shave them some and port? Anyone know how much you can shave to still run 93 octane? Can't afford anything too radical. (Like Rockers) This for a NA truck.
