Dead Around Here

I checked Autozone last Friday, they quoted me $140. Just didn't feel like it's the right Alt, even though the guy showed me it was for the 8.3L, the price was lower than I was expecting.
That's a shock!

I just had a look on Rockauto and they have quite a few Reman units and only 1 new a WAI but there a lot of numbers to cross reference with. I always have to do lots of checks to make sure I get the right part sent. Otherwise I end up with a shelf with all the wrong parts on it in the garage hahaha

Alternator dead due to all the tranny fluid from the leaky PS lines. Lines replaced, dead Alt. Does anyone have a good PN so I can buy one from a part store? Autozone has one, just don't know if it's the right one.
Can you clean it up inside and out .. are internal parts available if something is internally toasted ?
Remember the days when we use to repair parts and not be parts changers !

I dunno what happens with the reman units the chain stores get, it's like they have to alter it somehow for no reason. I don't trust any of them unless the OEM part is just not available any more. There used to be auto electric shops all over the place when I was a kid. We just took alts and starters there and they had it good to go within a few days.

The Brushes/Commutator are low voltage and it doesn't take much in the way of oil, antifreeze or ps fluid to prevent contact between them.
Normally, just a brush replacement and a bit of cleaning will restore an alternator to its former glory.

I remember blasting an alternator that was soaked with antifreeze with a powder-type fire extinguisher years ago, as it had stopped charging.

That fixed it, BUT it was a MESSY "fix".

There may have been some alcohol involved (liquor-logic).

The good ol days!!

Brushes could be externally replaced in minute and regulators were a seperate part way back ...today I have no idea what internals can be replaced but a good cleaing and internal insection should be a good start ..

Every couple of years I like to pop in and say hi
You are sneaky!! I always miss your visit. Must still be doing a buck ten hahaha. Hope you are well

Boy Howdy you ainta kiddin! Dead around here is an undetstatement - it's like a morgue in here!

It was Halloween and all the vampires have now gone back in the coffins :D
Ahh yes indeed! And the batty ones are hanging by their toes in their cozy little caves

Maybe turkey day will bring some action

I had a 1968 AMX that had a rebuildable windshield washer pump.

Now entire dishwashers and fridges are thrown out after 5 years or so.

And I thought banning plastic bags and straws was going to save the planet.
It all began when Microwaes came out .. they quit working and everyone either paid a lot to have it fixed or threw them away and bought another .. It was rediculous yet funny as hell that all it needed was a .15 cent car fuse and a few screws removing the cover to replace it and fixed damn near all of them ... hell that may still be the case today hahaha ..
beware of water heaters also ,, 6 year warrenty and they go bad right after the warrenty goes bye bye .. Ive replaced 4 in my place over the years , all from Home depot ! Now Ive heard that its not allowed to replace them youself ... Bull hockey in my opinion !

Seems everything now ,, washers and dryers , dishwashers are all circuit boards that cost to much and its like tracing shorts to fix or get lucky without zapping yourself taking out 1000 screws around sharp metal hahahaha ... a lot of washers tend to need the lid switch to fix them ,, they use to be around 50$ for the switch last time I had to buy one ..

As for straws and plastic ,, Screw the climate turds and tree huggers ... They pushed for plastic and got it and now they push the BS back to paper ,, Freaking hypocrits on and all .. Mental !
