I noticed when I was driving my truck at certain speeds that it had a bad vibration. I had the bed off changing my lowering blocks out and a guy pointed out to me a spot on the driveshaft that had a small ding in it.:( He said it looked like a forklift had done it so I figured that is where the vibration is from. You guys have any suggestions on getting it fixed? Or should I look at buying a new one, have a steel one made or maybe chromemoly. I have heard that you can't rebalance them. I would rather not spend a fortune if I can keep from it :D

yes you can rebalance them call a couple of repair shops they can give you the name of a shop the does it.

I will try that I just found this out late this afternoon. I hope that will work:dontknow:

i live close to tampa fla. and there are several places that do drive shaft work so there should be some in your neck of the woods try the yellow pages under automotive repair.

Do you have a vibration damper on the rear of your trans. some early model SRT-10's did not come with it. This will cause a vibration. the damper p/n# is5174632AA msrp 130.00. you will need these 3 screws p/n # 6101462 msrp 2.45 each, they come with washers./ It could also be because you have no weight in the back. Did it just start after you took the bed off?

you also need to check you're pinion angle
Tony, I read that pinion angle was something to be concerned about on the QC. Does that also need to be checked on a lowered RC?:dontknow:

When does that come into play? On a 2" drop, 3" drop or both? Just let us know when you get your hands on the info.

How the hell would a fork lift ding your drive shaft?

Well never mind, that's not the issue. If it's bent, rebalancing will not help it. Get a new one.

Lowering blocks will not alter your pinion angle as it's moving in a parallel plane and the change is so small you would not be able to measure it. Remember that the pinion angle needs to be the same as the tail shaft of the transmission, not pointed at the transmission.

What would be my best option for a new one?

Well you could try to find on in a junk yard. Problem there is first to find one, and then it may be damaged also.

I would bite the bullet and just buy a new one. Check with Dragon (site vendor) and see what he can get you one for. It's usually cheaper than what you can do at a dealer unless you get a real good deal.

I forgot. If you think it's bent, do not drive the truck. You would be amazed at the loads you are putting on your transmission and rearend.

Well, I don't think that it is bent just a small ding or crese in it. I may try to get some pics of it later and post them.

Kyle, many shops will not fix a dented drive shaft due to liability. Especially in a high performance vehicle. Silverback is correct in advising to buy a new one...

Hey...Stinker...maybe this would be a good opportunity for another group buy from DTS...do you have the time? Soon more and more of us will be looking to replace first u-joints, then drive shafts...maybe you can get out front on this and identify the best way to go, and we could go through you to get the item...just trying to build your business "Stinkers Best Way to Go".

I don't think a dented driveshaft would vibrate unless whatever dented it knocked a weght off. I dent would not change the the weight of the rotating mass, would it?
