does anyone here with a vec2/vec3 have an economy tune for their trucks? if so, what is different from the stock programming, and does it get better fuel economy etc, thanks

It is a 500hp v-10, there is no gas milage... I take it from osama every day. The only way to save gas? Change you rev limiter to 1700...

VEC2/3 and PCM flash programs kick in after you go into open loop (about 1 second after you hit WOT) Therefore, the only way to get any type of economy out of the truck is to drive it like a grandma or push it ;)

I dont know about the program for tunes only being different on closed loop!! What closed loop does different from regular driving and open loop is not make any adjustment based upon the O2 sensors, engine temp etc.. and runs a preset program for WOT. My truck with a stage II flash idles differently (I know the RPM has been adjusted but it sounds different too). Also the truck has a whole different feel with the accelerator all together. With my K & N intake I can even hear the sucking sound earlier and its quite a bit louder. Its louder then my buddies turbo'ed WRX STI with a K & N short ram intake! It sure as hell didn't sound like that before the tune and none of this is WOT. Its my understanding that all the parameters have been changed with the flashes. But my 93 Octane Tune has increased my MPG so I guess any tune or VEC upgrade should increase your economy!! You just have to drive it accordingly!

someone built a device to kill half the cylinders when cruising to save gas. I tested driving on 5 cylinders on a trip to arizona. I got 18 mpg instead of 11.5-12 like usual. i had NO power though. someone (more clever than me) really should build a device to kill cylinders on the fly. I'd buy that in a second.

My highway mpg got better after adding the VEC III and a Roe Top Mount...now I don't think that the long term return on my investment is going to come to fruition for several hundred years, but the process has been fun.

Dodge already has that in the HEMI.Its called MDS (Multiple displacement system) My '04 RC gets 18 on the highway and 11.5 in town with a Stage II pcm, gibsons, magnaflow,K&N & 4.56 gear.

The VEC and the flashes add more fuel at the lower RPMs and take out/lean fuel at WOT upper RPMS (actually a little more complicated but this is a gist). They also increase the timing throughout the RPM band to take advantage of higher octane fuel. The VEC or flash can be used/tuned with lower octane fuel to save you a few bucks on fuel, but it would not have as much HP/TQ as your higher octane programs. If I used a flash only, it would not be too practical to have a lower and higher octane flash, since you would have to stop the truck and remove the PCM. With the VEC, you could have a 87 octane program for driving on the highway and a 93 or higher for driving around town and having fun.

Then on top of this, you could add methanol injection, which on a small scale can act as a fuel, but mainly used to cool the intake and reduce detonation.

You mean OPEN LOOP doesn't make adjustments based on sensor input....right?

Yea Roy, one punch of the go peddle will negate any highway cruising!!

Oh, but what fun!!!

I can't think of a better way to spend money, legally that is!!!:D

woe, I second this lol Group buy?? Somebody make this...:D

This is not a Prius...if you folks want an economy vehicle you may have made a mistake in the original purchase. I understand that Vpr Helr has a long drive to work (Ottawa to... was it Sarasota?) but if your trip to work is shorter than that, drop mpg from your list of worries...you are pissing into the wind.

BTW- With the supercharger is your mileage up, down or the same Prof?
(Assuming of course you could drive it long enough with the throttle off of the floor).;)

04 Hemis don't have MDS.

Since we have multi-port injection, this can easily be done by putting a relay in series with the ground of the injectors on every other cylinder in the firing order. To really optimize it though, you should hold the exhaust valve open on these cylinders during the "economy mode" to avoid the losses during the compression stroke. That would be quite expensive.

I do have to agree with most of the other replies though. We bought these trucks because they are wickedly powerful, not for economy!

BTW - my VIPERAM gets 15 times better gas mileage than my boat! :D

The road mpg is up slightly...NBT has experienced even better highway increase than me.

Around town...no way to tell...I spend a lot of time at advanced throttle positions and going no miles at all...oh yeah, the odometer is advancing but the truck isn't moving....ain't it fun!!!!!!!:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

I Love that: "Advanced Throttle Positions"

:D

Yeah...I am pretty happy with the MPG...

Here is wat I got regarding HWY....

19.6 @ 72mph...@ 1500 rpm/6th

19.2 @ 80mph...@ 1850 rpm/6th

City I manage 13.2 to 13.8
