Yes e-fans do work and it is up to you if you want to disable the stock fan or not. Question is why are you trying to get rid of it? They are VERY efficient at cooling the engine. The PCM can be flashed to have it turn on sooner if you would like.....
I have had 3 pumps put on and replaced the high px hose on top each time, i finally went to a radiator shop, who made me a line better than stock, but its begining to leak now, plus on real hard turns the power steering stops working for a second.
Then go ahead and pull that sucker. I would get the SPAL fans with their PWM controller. Help the fan(s) last a lot longer. Then you can still turn the on manually for times at the track.....
scott, trying to figure one up now, but the diesals, they have aftermarket fan set ups that work great and should fit, and with shrouds, but problem is they arent too cheap for a good set up
but you can look up like bd diesal, becool and companies like that that have them

Be careful if you switch to the diesel fan as it is driven off of the water pump, and the diesel motor doesn't ever spin 6000 rpm. I'm not sure that the diesel fan would like that.
