Any header /muff/cat combos that are quiter than others for these beasts? Dont really like too much noise. Also is Exhaust upgrade neccesary for SC installation? :dontknow:

you could get headers, not catless, like gibson so u could still keep cat

Stay with the stock configuration if you want it to be quiet...that is as quiet as it gets.

Headers, cat delete and free flowing muffler is not required for SC...but...wow, what a sacrifice for the sake of sound...I would estimate a 40 to 60 rwhp drop due to stock exhaust system...

If you want a super charger...get used to the noise...IMHO

Ditto dude!!!!

Keeping the cats on will keep the noise down for sure. The gibson catback is definatly more quiet than the magnaflow. I have heard both in person.

I was very concerned about increasing the noise level on my 06 QC as well but wanted a little more sound. After talking to quite a few people everyone mostly agreed that the Mopar exhaust was the quietest available for the QC but possibly not the most performance. I was reluctant bought just purchased the Mopar cat back last week and got it installed. I left everything else in place as far as the cats are concerned. It is louder at idle but not bad. It really opens up the exhaust note starting at around 2,700 RPM up to about 3,100 RPM and in that range is very noticeable in the cab. If you take off normal and just ease into the throttle and it shifts at 2,500 or below it is just a tad louder than stock and you can't tell that it is much louder than stock. Get into to the throttle hard and let it shift around 3,000 RPM and you can tell it is alot louder. Drive it easy...sounds close to stock. Punch it and it is noticeably louder. Hope that helps...

Thanks!

so are u saying that mopar exhaust is quieter, but if I get magnaflow then it would be more loud?? well for myself I want a little more performance w/ more hp and louder noise

Since it is music to me, I prefer to think of it as exhaust "sound" rather than "noise". :D If you have to keep the noise to a minimum and want to stay with stock exhaust, there is a way to maximize the efficiency of the blown application (still not quite as good as a free-flowing exhaust, but close). You can get a camshaft that has the same valve timing as you have now, but open the exhaust valve 10° to 12° sooner. You still want to close it in the same place. This reduces pumping losses and helps get rid of the extra exhaust created by the added volume pumped into the engine. It involves more teardown, but it should only be a 10% (parts cost) adder compared to the price of the blower.

If you want to keep the noise down, stay with the stock mid pipes and cats. That means your header options are limited to Gibson and Bassani.

If you swap out the stock cats for high flows or catless mids you are going to get LOUD. No way around it.

Cat back choice isn't going to make much of a difference in overall loudness, IMHO. It's that cats (or lack thereof that crank up the decibel levels).

I'm with you. I never thought of the rumble of a nice exhaust as noise. :dontknow:

I also have an exhaust question. I have heard several state that the stock OEM muffler is restricting yet the rear resonators help decrease the sound alot yet they are NOT restrictive. Anyone know this to be true? I currently have the MOPAR cat back exhaust and I like the sound and don't want to go louder however...everyone says that going rear cat delete only will pick alot of HP. My questions is if I went rear cat delete only (keep the fronts in place), kept the MOPAR cat back, and installed the stock OEM rear resonator with tips does anyone think it would be about the same sound/DB level as I have now but pick up some free HP?

Thanks!

I have what I think is the only system of it's kind............a stock muffler with catless mids and a cross-over pipe.Way better tone than stock, but no resonance in the cab like I had with the MagnaFlow. When I had the MagnaFlow and stock mids it sounded about the same.I think now it flows better than stock mids-MagnaFlow.The noise with the 3" catless mids and MagnaFlow was just getting to me.And the noise police  I liked it when playing, but for normal driving,it was just too loud.
I really don't think your stock muffler is where the restriction is.Look through it.........wide open, just like MagnaFlow.Your cats are where you are losing the most HP.The MagnaFlow IS slightly larger and has less bends.
All a matter of what your preference is.Just my .02 :D
