yes they can,most of the time it will make noise,like a grinding sound.very unusual for one to go out with out making noise.if its on the front jack the truck up and then pull the tire up and down,if its bad it will have a lot of play in it.flchub said:can a wheel bearing go bad without making any noise ?

great advice Roy,I did not think of that.:rock:Prof said:Clint you can also just leave the truck on the ground and pull the tire towards you at the top and at the sides...if you can feel play or some movement you may have a bearing going bad...if you don't feel movement, drive it for 10 or 15 minutes and then see if the hub is hotter than the one on the other side...excessive heat is a sure sign that the bearings are bad...
