Gas Mileage

you're towing a trailer... use the stock... especially going up the colorado mountains.. you will experience pre-detonation with the stageII

I towed a car over the grapevine with my stage2, and didn't have any problems. no heat problems or pinging problems.

If you were going on a 4000 mile road trip what PCM would you use for the best gas mileage? The stage2 or the stock one?

When I drove back last year I averaged about 14.5mpg... but then again I kinda could not stay out the loud pedal a good portion of the ways.... :D

However this was before any of my serious mods... just had a CAI and Magnaflow catback, and was not hauling a trailer.

I personally would not haul a trailer with Stage 2... I think your asking for problems.

grapevine is nothing compared to the Colorado mountains.

true, but so long as it's not to the floor the mappings should be unchanged since the ECU measures the O2 sensors to meter fuel

DC Performance told me that towing with the Stage II is extremely damaging to the tranny. Since torque management is dissabled, the tranny is much more likely to slip.

I towed a goldwing on a trailer with my QC once. I started with the stage 2 and could feel the tranny slip. It seemed to be "fish biting" with the stage 2. I hooked the stock ECU back up for the rest of the tow and had no problems. I only went about 30 miles with the stage 2.

Stock PCM...

Fuel has nothing to do with it as the ECU will control the fuel based off 02, BUT timing will be controlled by Map based off air density. Once you hit the mountains, I would be cautious pulling a trailer w/ the stage 2. Will it detonate? Hard to say, you wont hear it because your 05 has knock sensors pulling the timing back....but you still don't want emergency sensor (knock) to have to compensate for a problem occurring.

If you were not pulling a trailer, then stage 2 will be better and probably get better driveability and fuel efficiency due to the timing tables.
