Not to be funny but I've seen people use "tue" before. But thanks Roy I agree. This is why I usually write in a manner far different than my ordinary verbal communication. I feel one is judged with the words he/she chooses before anyone lays eyes upon them... before judging how strange they appear. My linguistic skills adjust itself accordingly from one end of the spectrum to the other (intellectual to street ghetto; country to jungle gibberish), depending, of course, on the circumstances, mood or affiliate(s) at the time.

In speech/language pathology the process you describe is called "code switching"...when I tell my students about the process, I use gynecologists as my example..."what they say in their office...is very different from what I hear in the locker room at the country club!"

Gynecologists are an excellent example. Their attitude towards their.. "subject" would likely differ greatly between the office and home too. It could be helpful to the marriage in once sense, yet damaging in another.

That will work! I think you sailors say: "Any port in a storm!"

I had some trouble with English in school, but, since I am a rather voracious reader,I have picked up on a few things over the years.

You are never too old too stop learning. After high school or college , a lot of folks simply become apathetic towards learning higher language skills.I hope that I never become satisfied with the knowledge that I have and that I always try to attain more.

Thanks,Roy !!!!!!!

Please do not view this post as preaching...a fact of life: You cannot exist without sending messages, you will always be evaluate/judged/and treated by the quality of your communication, be it written, spoken or even just body language, dress or the truck you drive.

I would like to use this thread to offer assistance to those who want it...for example many people here need to know the difference between the words "to", "too" and "two", or many other common grammatical/spelling/structure questions. To help, I offer the following:

http://www.drgrammar.org/faqs/#100

A quick read is a world of information that might make the difference at some point or place in the future.

Roy

You should try (to, too, two :D ) to read some of the written statements I obtain from victims or witnesses of crimes. They gradjated from the 12th grade and some have college. :dontknow:
Sometimes, I have to ask, what the heck is this work

Then they can't even pronounce it correctly.

Anywhos, that for the offer. I might need your instruction as time goes by.

On a serious note, I think grammar and spelling are pretty kick ass. That was good stuff. I'll finish the last half on another day.

Transitive or intransitive verbs?
According to The Grammar Bible, "Any verb that requires a direct object is known as a transitive verb.
I trim the lawn.
The noun lawn receives the action of the verb, the trimming. The verb trim is a transitive verb.
I taught the children.
The noun children receives the action of the verb, the teaching. The verb taught is also a transitive verb.

Verbs that do not take objects are intransitive verbs.
We shall run when we get the chance.
No word receives the action of this verb. Therefore, run is an intransitive verb.
We stayed at the Ritz.
No noun or pronoun receives the action of this verb either. It is intransitive.

Some verbs can be either transitive or intransitive, depending on how they are used.
TRANSITIVE
I work the lathe in the workroom.
Bob operates the copy machine.

Is this the same as transexual to transgender
