Tonight I took the truck to fill'er up with some gas. While waiting at a traffic light to make a U-turn to go back to the gas station, a young kid in an older Ford Ranger extended cab pulls up next to me and says that truck is so awesome. He knew what it was and asked if it was the SRT-10. Told em yep. He says thats the one with 500 hp stock right? I replied, yep.
He asks which way are you going? I said left, he says me too. He asks, could you just show me a little of what the truck can do? I don't want you to get a ticket or anything but I have never seen one run before. Those things beat lightnings right? I say, yes these can beat lightings and of course I will show you what this thing can do (no brainier there). We make the left and have to sit at another light. He pulls up next to me and I tell him when the light turns I'm going to nail it. So I built on the brake to about 1800 (for display purposes) and let her rip when the light turned green. Smoked em for a bit, backed off and then took off down the road to the gas station.
He follows me in and immediately comes over and says Holy Shit that thing is fast. I don't mean to bother you again but I saw these on commercials two years ago and I never saw one in person. Can I see the engine. Again this is a no brainier. Pop the hood and he looks underneath and he cant believe how clean the motor is and that he is looking at a big ass Viper engine. He had some more small talk with me and just waited until I left. When I started up the truck to leave the gas station he said to the attendant, damn man, you hear that, now thats badass. The attendant could have cared less.
My point to this post is two fold. Number one the kid really made me proud to be an owner of an SRT-10. Two, no one is probably ever going to come up to somebody with a Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, etc. and have a conversation like that. He may not ever get close to an SRT-10 again to actually look at it like he did tonight. To me, I think that is pretty damn cool...
